Where is the silencer?

Hey guys. The silencer in the intake.. where is it located? Is it before the afm or after the afm? What does it look like? anyone have a pic of what i should look for? A K&N was installed before i bought the car, so he might have already removed it.

It is located in the fenderwell under the airbox. You have to take the wheel off, and pull back the wheel well lining to get to it. Good luck!

You will have to tug a bit to get it out. I could not believe the size of the resonator. The sound is worth all the effort.

GOOD GOD!! you weren't friggin kidding!!! That beast was HUGGEEE!! I had to remove the side marker to gain access to two nuts that were holding it from the front, as well as one nut that was right beside the airbox under the hood. When it came out, i couldnt believe my eyes. It was huge. I can fit a dead body into the freed up space. Nice place for an intercooler too ... seriously speaking, i took the hose with the slit and cut it in half at the slit. Is this a good idea? or should i just take that extension hose out altogether?
-Ross

PS: Once again, thanks for your help guys!!

Leave the extension hose there, otherwise you will suck in some hot engine compartment air.

LOL it's definitely worth it. A tip: take off your airbox under your hood, as well as the nut that's right in front of it on the fender. Also take off the front side marker to gain access to the two nuts that hold it. That should release it.
Have fun!

I removed the all the plastic tubing and the seal that was around the plastic tubing, there is about 5mm of space between the air box and the hole in the fender, I will eventually seal it off from the engine compartment, but from how my car responds I'm not drawing in much hot air from the engine compartment since the path of least resistance is through the hole in the fender well. I definatly notice a difference in 50-80mph time, maybe a little in 0-60 but it definatly sounds way cooler now.
