Back in the market with ?'s...

A little over three years ago I was
seriously considering buying an SVX for myself when the
company I work for leased a SAAB for me which took me out of the
market (temporarily). Well, I turned in the SAAB earlier this
month & am back on the hunt.

I'm going to look at a '94 LSI with 60k miles later this week & was
wondering what were the obvious things to look for. Based on
your experiences, what should this car go for in very good condition?
I believe the tranny to be original & the current owner
said a Subaru dealer went thru the car recently & gave it a clean
bill of health.

Also, if I buy the car, what would be the first things I should do to
it (change fluids to Red Line)? Anything else?

This would be a second car for me as I just acquired a "beater" to
get me back & forth to work & to bike meets. I would want to keep
the SVX well maintained & on the road as long as possible so any info
& suggestions would be appreciated.

One last question: How do I read the serial # (year, model, etc.)?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Dave

See if the exhaust pipes have been banged into the pavement. There are many posts on this subject now, what to look for when buying. A search may do you well.

if a dealer went through the car and gave it a clean bill of health, ask to see the receipt/work order and see for yourself what was checked and said. I think that's a receipt most people would have kept.

Disclaimer: I love the SVX I own now, but I have to admit I was terribly seduced by the car when face to face with it and $$ burning a hole in my pocket. The owner took me for a ride (figuratively - said after spending lots of my own hours and about $5K in repairs over the last 6 months).

The VIN number and manufacture date is on the frame behind the drivers door on a silver and black tag. Good luck.
