I'm sorry but I've never seen a guy look manly in either of those cars, but if I were held down at gunpoint and forced to choose one, I'd go with the Miata because it's rwd.

didn't the new beetle (granted, the hard top version) win some rally race a few years back?

They build a special version of the Beetle called the Rsi, it's the only new Beetle I'd ever let myself be seen in. Not available in the US though.

Or built in Mexico/So.America either. The home market gets the good stuff. As far as the Miata being a "girlie-car", I've seen a number of the little buggers with rims/tires and suspensions/roll-bars looking and performing like the real deal. There is a plethora of performance parts out for them as well.
