I have NEVER seen the light light up on it's own. I had the dash out and checked all of the bulbs, the Low Fuel light was good....

I Hit that gut churning "E" mark around 300 miles.

all my Svxs have

always come on consistantly like clockwork when
I hit about 2-3 gallons left in the tank.
Sometimes the lite will even "slightly" glow when its
close.....and then after a while shine bright as it should
be when its suppose to.
One thing I bet no one knows, is theres a "chime" that comes
on at the same time when the lite comes on !!
I had my radio down for some reason one day and I heard
this "chime" the moment my lite came on.
Thought that was cool too....but the radio has to be OFF
and the windows all up to hear it

My light comes on when i only hit 230 miles on a full tank. It does this consistently. Then i go and fill up and it says i've only used 13 gallons!

I have never heard this "chime" and I normally only fill up after the low fuel light comes on.

The low fuel light coming on seems to be dynamically determined by the ECU. I've been a rather conservative driver as of late to help with fuel consumption; when near the literal empty without the fuel light on I sometimes have to get on it and the fuel light comes on. It usually goes off again after I've slowed down.

I've noticed it kinda seems that way but I attribute it to the gas sloshing around in the tank.

How many gallons DOES it take?

I ran mine dry (downhill, even) about a month ago. We put in a 5 gallon can, drove approx. 2 miles to a gas station and filled it and it only took another 12.7 gallons (do the math -- that's only 17.7 gallons total). The most I had ever put in up to that point was 16.7 gallons.

Normally, I can go about 80 miles after it hits the "E" mark, the light comes on 30-40 miles later. When I do a lot of highway driving, I usually fill up when I hit 400 miles, and it takes around 16 gallons to fill it.

Someone suggested that perhaps the pickup on the opposite side from the fuel pump (you know, the "saddlebag" design) is not working properly, therefore I HAD gas, but it wasn't making it to the pump . Sounds logical to me.
