First time SVX buyer!

Hey guys,

My name is Mike, and I'm thinking of picking up an SVX I found online.
It isnt the prettiest thing but the motor and trans has 102K with no shifting problems. The car was rarely used since the husband and wife both had their own primary cars.

So this is the story.
The dad got into a small fender bender with a jetta and passed the car on to his son when he came home from college.
The son went around a turn in the rain and 180'd over a curb, taking out the pass. rear wheel and setting off the airbag.
I have a good junkyard over here who already has both those in stock and ready to go on the car if I buy it.

They want 1,000 for it because of the body condition.
If it was in perfect order body wise he said he would easily ask 3,000

Tell me what you think.

front fender

interior

rear shot of where the car rubbed against a guard rail from the son.

So would this be worth it for 1G as a winter car?

Thanks,
Mike

That's good deal for 1000, I paid $800 for my pearlie with a bad tranny, body is in better shape but that car's interior is in better shape than mine. Get it, put a tranny cooler in it, throw a fender and front bumper on it, and the rear bumper, either replace it, or repaint it, one of the two.. All easy fixes!

More push for you

It looks really a good deal especially if you already know
where to get the parts you need.
The interior looks good except for the steering wheel.
Those are easy fixes.
Good luck.

Is the 'engine' check light on while you're driving? (since
the airbag is gone)

no, only the airbag light.
and i dont think it blinks or anything, its just there.

If I pick it up Im going to drive it to the wrecking yard to pick up the new rim and tire.
Within the next week after getting it, im going to order a trans cooler and inline filter.
Maybe at the same time ill do the power steering o-ring, and can someone link to me the thread for the power steering return hose replacement as well as tell me what the hell the $15/15min mod is?

Later ill do the fender and airbag replacement when i feel it necessary to spend the money.
For now a hammer and some duct tape will have to be the fix for those 2 problems.
I really need this car so i can do the headgasket and turbo upgrade on my DSM.
Its an after perk that I get an SVX as a daily driver!

You're gonna want to replace all four tires on that SVX if you get it, not just the one.

This has the potential to be a very bad deal. I remember one member on here with a very nice SVX took a low-speed slide on ice in his SVX and hit a curb. The subframe was bent and left the car with incorrect geometry.

The impact in this case here was hard enough to break the wheel and set off the airbag. I would have to be certain that the rear suspension was straight and perfect before I would part with a dollar.

Also, saying he could easily ask $3000 is hard sell technique. In fact he could easily ask $10,000! It's what he would actually get that is the important figure here.

I would be very wary of buying that car, and I'm an SVX buying FOOL!
