O.T.-JDM WRX 260 HP Motor

I just won a JDM WRX 260 HP Motor & Auto tranny, on E-Bay, and I'm
trying to decide whether to try to put it in my XT6, or into my
wife's Outback Sport.
I'm looking for pro's and Con's, as both of them are running fine.

Probably easier to put in the OBS as it came out of an Impreza
body,...but 260 HP in the XT would kick some serious butt

I posted this on the XT6 site, but what do you guy's think?

which to put it in

Well lets see. 99% of the world don't know what an XT is so when they get smoked by it they'll think its just another Prelude or something. The Outback Sport doesn't look like a WRX so if you stick it in there you can go out and smoke the WRXs and the ricers will run back to the dealer asking for an Outback Sport. Then again you did say its your wife's car. Put it in the XT. You'll enjoy it more.

Neat!

Are you going to keep the engine and tranny together, or are you planning on mating the engine to a manual?

Oh am I envious. I have to ask (but you don't have to answer) how much did you pay for it???

Why not put the motor it in the front wheel drive Impreza L that you have? That would be a serious tire smoking machine. Better yet, why don't you put it in my front wheel drive Impreza L, you know, as a test That would be around 10lb/hp. MMmmmmmm.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. If you put it in the wife's car, do you still get to drive it

Huck, if you do end up putting it in the OBS, I would be very interested in purchasing the old motor (it's a 2.5, right?)

Good questions!
I do drive the OBS most weekends that we have all the kids(3 daughters, Carol & me) as it's the only car that has 5 seat belts in it.
But Carol drives it to work.

If I put it in the XT6, I'll make an adapter plate to utilize the 5-Speed with diff lock that is in the XT6, if I put it in the OBS, I'll leave the Auto behind it, as the OBS is an auto currentlly

Rufus, The OBS is a 96 MY and it has the EG2.2, with only 80k on it, but doesn't have the 2.5

And I got it for $456.00 + Shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ME:B:EOAB:US:6

Couldn't believe it went so cheap, they also had a 2.0 Twin Turbo B4 engine and auto tranny that went for under $600.00

I was accually looking out for an auto tranny for the OBS(as it's been acting up a little) but couldn't pass up the turbo motor AND tranny for less than I expected to get a tranny for I just have to find out what gear ratio that the 95 JMD WRX Auto used, so I can math up the rear diff.

I'm so excited

Unbelievable. That is really a fantastic deal, assuming everything is in good working order. Even assuming one or the other is in good working order.

Anyway, I would like a 2.2 as well. That would actually be a nice upgrade over the 1.8, and a super easy swap. Let me know if you are interested in selling it. Or trading for SVX parts.

Putting it in the XT would probably be more fun to drive, but probably much harder to do. Someone has probably put one in an OBS so you could find some info on that somewhere.
Since you were the first to do a 5sp. I am sure you will be able to handle the install in either one.

Hopefully everything is in working order
Well if I put it in the OBS I'll keep you in mind on the 2.2, I'd say from looking at the 2 side by side(EG1.8 & EG2.2) I think they would even use the same wiring harness, as they are nearlly identical.

Thanks Nubs for the support, but you could always come over and help with the swap , Bring your Dirt bike and stay a week...work on the swap some....trail ride some...work on the car some...

I'm accually leaning toward the XT6, as it'd be such a blast to drive, probably strip all the AC stuff and make it as light as possiable and still be streetable.

Though having some info from somebody doing it in an Impreza, would make it a lot easier

Well I've probably got a few weeks before it even gets here, and probably won't do anything till it warms up ....To dag goone cold to work on it right now...12 Deg...Burrrrr.

It seems to me that if the initial purchase was going to be for a transmission for the OBS then that would be the logical choice to go ahead put the entire package in there. That resolves the problem for the "acting" tranny and adds some beef. As for the XT6 those are pretty peppy as they are, though it would be fun it just wouldn't solve the tranny problem in the OBS.
Just my two cents...

<broke from spending last two cents>

XT6 all the way. If you did take out all the AC and such, with the all wheel drive, you should be able to roast almost any stock car thats under 40k. i mean, it depends on gear ratio and such, but if you put 260hp in, and say 4.10 gear ratio, you would FLY off the line

Yeah, the XT6 would ROCK with 260HP, the stock gearing in the XT6 5-Speed is 3.90s, which ought to work really good off the line. and still plenty of top end......It'd be kind of bad that it would be much faster than it's big brother(SVX)
Hey, then I'd have the first 5-Speed SVX and the first EJ2.0T powered XT6....err...XT4....XT 2.0-Turbo...aaaahh, whatever would I call it, since it wouldn't be a "6" anymore....maybe WRX-T

Hey Huck,I just took a look at the auction for the engine you bought. I am not sure about this, but I have never seen a WRX engine that had a air to water intercooler. It looks to me like a motor out of a Liberty(Legacy).
