Stock wheel backspace

Hello,

Could some kind person with a stock wheel off his/her car put a straightedge across the inside edge of the rim and measure the distance to the mounting surface of the wheel ?

Are the stock wheels 16" x 7" or 7.5" ???

Thanks for the help its much appreciated

The wheels are 7.5" and 55mm offset. I haven't measured them myself but this is what everyone else says they are.

Thanks but....

David,

I too have seen that number but somehow backspace and offset are not the same number.

offset is the difference, positive or negative of the mounting face from the midpoint of the rim width: hence 7.5 inches div by two plus (or minus) 55mm...

I am trying to get the actual number on an actual wheel representing the bolt mounting face of the wheel and its distance from the inner edge of the wheel. Pretty sure that it ISN'T 55mm

Thanks for the help tho'

Hotshoe

Earthworm is right. I measured mine with some instruments that a friend had who was plant engineer for Volvo production. The full detail is on the Yahoo club. If you do a search for posts under my name you should find both the winter rim & summer rim specs. It was about 2 years ago.

Like a dummy I can't put my finger on them now.

That's for a steel rim. I'm correcting my previous calculations...

the inner-outer rim width is 8" and the offset is 55mm from the center so 55mm + 4"(half the rim) = 156.6mm

sound right?

Yeah David, I think that we're there...

Which steel wheel was 8 inches wide??? I think the 6.4" must be pretty close to the answer.

Thanks for the tekkie stuff. Itw as -22 last night and Suby2 started right up, you've been having the same cold spell too, haven't you???

Take care,

The steel is the Subaru Brand winter rim. Subaru part no. for the rim is 28111PA100 in Canada. Had to put the studded snow tires on something.

BTW -18 C here last night, but only -8 in the day. Positively tropic!
