What is this?

Looks like central Vac, and an oversized torque converter

Re: What is this?

Looks like it has been converted to use LPG. (Liquefied Petroleum Gas.)

Re: What is this?

It has been converted to run on Liquid Propane Gas (LPG). The propane tank is in the trunk.

Re: What is this?

LPG is pretty common in a lot of places, especially Europe where petrol is very expensive compared to the US.

Re: What is this?

Yup. LPG conversion. Looking at it for mine at the moment. Gas in the UK is around $8.50 per gallon

Re: What is this?

It´s an LPG conversion. Common in Europe -about 6-7 million cars have been converted-, only for petrol cars. Same performance and power than original engine-only about 10hp lost while you drive in "gas mode". You can drive with gas or with petrol if you wish with a button in your dashboard. Extra tank is located where spare wheel was.

I made it in my 2004 Outback 3.0 six months ago. It´s fantastic. Here in Spain 95 oct petrol costs 1,35€/liter, while autogas costs 0,70€/liter. Cheaper than a diesel engine with performance of a good powered petrol engine. The perfect way to avoid this "diesel misery" that invades our roads and towns.

Re: What is this?

So you still have the normal fuel tank and you can switch between the two?

Re: What is this?

Yes. I have both tanks: 64 litres of petrol as always, plus 56 litres of autogas: 110 litres= 1000 kms -600 miles- of autonomy. But mainly I use autogas because its price.
Petrol is only necessary when ignition, and when engine reachs normal temperature of use changes to gas automatically. If engine is hot, it changes to gas a pair of seconds after the ignition.
