This was kinda 'worked into' the Ungrateful SOB thread. This is an attempt to move it to another thread, since the ungrateful SOB is not really related to this problem.

I have been building cars here for 23 years. NOW it has been declaired a 'problem'.
I showed up at the city counsil meeting the other day, because I recieved (2) letters from the compliance officer over 'things' in my back yard.
He was 'concerned' about 3 'vintage', (HIS words) cars with no windshields or engines, and missing body parts under my CAR PORTS!!
He was concerned about a 50's vintage wringer washing machine that I had stored under roof, (2) wooden chairs that I had on my porches and buckets that I had collecting rain water for my plants.

I HAD to go into 'ATTACK' mode!


I spent 2 hours thursday nite cleaning up the 'mess' on the city's property. I
was wacking weeds and bagging trash.
IF they insist on continuing the attack on my back yard projects, this will be
the LAST time I mow their grass! I will call the 'compliance' officer and
complain every time a weed reaches 12 inches!
(The weeds that I have cut for 22 years) I will complain about the trash that
the trash that drives past throws out their windows instead of picking it up.
I will dig up my flowers and move them to the back yard, (That NO 'tourist'
sees)
I think that someone at city hall will realize pretty quick that it might be a
mistake to come after me for the 'old cars'!
I was in my shop for 5 hours tonite. (1) car came up the alley!
I have been there for 12 hours and the only cars that came up the alley were
people that were coming HERE!

I will continue to put on welding gloves to work my flower beds so I don't get
stabbed by broken Budweiser bottles or Hypodermic needles
while a city with it's head in the sand thinks that my 'OLD CARS' are a problem
that needs addressed!

If they are harassing you about your stuff, someone must have called and complained. Otherwise they do nothing as you can tell from the weeds,beer bottles and needles.

I got another letter today. I can 'keep' the truck but, even though it's in a car port, it HAS to be under a manufactured car cover or I will be 'cited and fined'!
I'm taking it to a show next week and taping the letter to it!
Then I might put it on the trailer and park it along Rt 40 for a few days!
The SOB is packing his bags, they are MOVING and the only other 'nasty' person here is that hateful broad behind me. She was a big itch in 1968 as an 8th grader and got UGLY and MEANER ever since.
I was just going to 'race' it. I should leave it 'RAT' and tag it. Then I can park it on the street!
The only things mentioned in the letter is the 46 and a 68 Mustang rag top with new top and paint. (not tagged)

OK, Results are in.
A 'crew' was sent out to cut the REST of the grass that I don't cut. NO trash was picked up so it still looks like hell! The wind carried trash from there to here and covered the part that I had picked clean, The next day, I got a letter saying that I "had to divest myself one 1 of the 2 vehicles, Put a MANUFACTURED car cover on the one that STAYS or face a citation and fine."

One of them was LEAVING anyway since it is 95% RESTORED and shiney. (BEFORE the letter) The only thing missing is the grill and parking lights.
Today, I spent the day 'on the road'. I traveled almost 100 MILES within city limits. I did not run the alleys, just main streets.
I SAW 25 un-registered LATE models with parts removed, weeds growing through them, names written in the dust, (if they were in a carport), I saw a 'cute' Mustang that has been sitting in a carport for several YEARS while the guy 'works' it.
I saw a 'piece' of a Jeep under a cover and a Firebird parked on CITY property with a cover. NO other cars were covered with a 'MANUFACTURED car cover!
I Ordered a 'SPECIAL cover today. I included a PICTURE of what is being covered. I asked the MANUFACTURER to 'AIR BRUSH' the picture onto the OUTSIDE of the cover!
I want the picture LIFE SIZED!
Since the cover will fit BOTH trucks, when the 'Shiney' one is outside it will be WEARING a picture of the RAT ROD!
Also, I AM going to close in the carport. I have 9 pannels out of sliding glass doors!
I am going to close it in with GLASS and leave a light on at nite!

That's about the way I feel about it. After I posted here last, that night, a letter from the owner's association 'police', didn't like the way the bushes were trimmed.

I stopped by a building that USED to be my 'Hospital' of choice today. It was 'protected' by signs that stated that the Mayor and City Counsil are 'protecting' it with cameras.
I saw weeds growing, Trash blown in and trees that would 'hurt' you if a breeze kicked up!

I ordered a laser vinyl cutter today. I have enough vinyl to cover a school bus!
I also measured things and came up with a 'plan' to enclose my carport with GLASS!
I also carried the glass to the site. I will leave the light on all nite, so that anyone coming up or down my alley can SEE the ugly vehicle in the GOLDFISH bowl!

This is NOT what the 'big plan' was. The original plan was to build a 'Display', that LOOKED like a 1930's gas station and would keep the rain off of the trucks.
Now, I have to 're-think the plan to keep the GOVERNMENT from STEALING my truck and charging ME to haul it away!

IF these IDIOTS will leave me alone, they could have ANOTHER place to send the 'tourists'! I have been 'working' this plan for 5 years! This only became a 'problem' a few weeks ago.
I can be an 'asset', i can be a 'problem'. The choice is THEIRS!!
I'm 57 years old with NO criminal record.
My kids are not 'criminals', but they LIKE old cars.

Either I can FINISH building the 1930's gas station, with a 40's vintage vehicle parked there or I will build a GOLDFISH bowl with a 24 hour light on and signs that my 'NEW' laser sign cutter stuck to the glass doors explaining how the 'city' HATES old cars!

I carried the glass doors there today, but my back hurt too bad to actually install them.
I have been 'BLOGing' the ****ty/city on 4 different sites since this started.

The 'OFFENDING' vehicle could have a tag on it tomorrow. I would have no choice but to park it WHEREVER a 'high profile' event was happening!
Since it is a pick-up and I now OWN a sign printing machine and 15 sheets of plywood,They might have to consider 'REDNECK REVENGE' before pushing too much furthur on a 'case' that WILL end up in the court of special appeales before I quit!

Remember Jerry, the ordinance didn't appear over night and it is passed by your locally elected officials. That is your proper outlet, kick the bastards out. I take offense to you calling a person who is simply doing his job a nazi. He/she didn't write the rules but rather is simply tasked with enforcing them just as a cop is tasked with enforcing the laws to the best of their ability. In fact a zoning officer or code official has to take the same oaths, receives the same badge and has very similar powers as a blue man does. Having seen your yard, you're lucky you live where you do, your list would be a whole lot longer if you lived where I live.

What I would do though, and they can't touch it is create some art and refer to it as art or another purposeful thing i.e. washing machine planter, bathtub tulip holder, truck bed koi pond, etc. As was already stated, 99% of the responses as most don't have the time to do actual investigative work comes from complaints. Likely you are working on a Hatfield vs McCoys with one of your neighbors. It is all in the definition of what it is. An ordinance defines each terms and is usually quite vague for example a plantholder is a device used to hold a plant. Better yet if there isn't a definition, it simply falls to a dictionary. As for putting signs on your yard, again most areas have sign ordinances which require permits, dictate size, setback etc which is allowed. Request a copy of it before you violate more. Keep in mind that the penalties can be quite stiff. Usually up to $500 a day per offense.

The 'art' will be some 'pics' that I'll shoot at America Pickers star Bobby's place. I will have them airbrushed onto the sides and doors of my garage.
Also the car cover for the RatRod will have a pic, full scale' painted on the outside.

This is 'selective' enforcement of a code that didn't exist last year. As far as what I have read, does not exist this year.

'Selective Enforcement'. That is what is going on here! There are (5) properties within eye-shot of my 'PROBLEM' that have the SAME 'issues'. There are 6 buildings with roofs that leak BAD and bricks falling out of some of them.

I have been 'chosen' as the 'test case'!
I have (1) vehicle parked on my 'residential' property. It is a car that has a 'value' of over $30,000 in it's CURRENT condition.
I have been 'told' to cover it with a car cover or be 'FINED' for it's preasance.

THIS is NOT a 1982 K-CAR! This is a 95% RESTORED Mustang convertable! (From the 60's) Shiney paint and a NEW top!
My 'other' problem for the city is a 1946 Dodge truck, under my carport, that I have taken from a rusty frame to an almost 'operable' AUTO-CROSSER in 6 months!
ALL other vehicles are tagged and running!

They have stolen my 'JOY'! They have interfeered with my 'Persuit of Happiness'!!

I have been DAMAGED!! I might have to look for a 'Constitutional' LAWYER!

I have not filled my backyard with JUNK!
I have a shiney Mustang and a Rat Rod Dodge on (2) different properties. They just happen to be 'neighbors'.

Good luck with that. It won't end well especially in the pocket provided they have provided you with the proper paperwork which contains all the violations and the proper ordinances. Trust me, I've written maybe 500 Notices of Vilolation and have only lost a handful of cases. Most of which were for having not provided proper information such as the correct address, owner, etc as the database that my township uses for that is simply error ridden to say the least. That said, I didn't loose the second time around. LOL, if you can forward me a copy of the ordinance for your municipality and your NOV I'd be happen to point out the holes in it or lack there of.

That is a BAD decision! I can 'move' all my stuff out of town. I have a 'place' where I have payed the 'protection money'.
