All Subaru 90's 4EAT AT axles the same?

Driver's side is pretty much gone AGAIN. Not too bad for how much abuse I've given it in the last what 3 years. Anywho. I've got axles sitting here from my 97' OBS 4eat. Will they work? If they do GREAT! If not... Impreza is getting it's 6mt in soon anyways and hasn't been driven in like 2 years. It won't miss them and will mean I have spares for when the other side goes.

Re: All Subaru 90's 4EAT AT axles the same?

As far as I know all 4EAT axles are 25 spline axles except for FWD Impreza axles (23 spline like the old EA81 and EA82 axles) So the inner joint cup will fit, the different may be found in the outer DOJ, I havent had my wheel bearings apart yet on my SVX so I'm not sure if the diameter of the hub splines are bigger or not. OB and SVX weigh about the same, so they could use similar sized bearings/hubs.

Not quite the answer you were lookin for, but it is some info on the subject

Re: All Subaru 90's 4EAT AT axles the same?

They weigh no where near the same...
SVX is a ****ING PIG! Legacy or Impreza OB's both are WAY lighter. But that's all I needed to know. I've got my old axles nexto tonthe car. I'll pull one of the Impreza's ones and check the two next to each other. Just didn't want ti be checking the spline count after pulling out ofte SVX to find out I am SOL.

Go to your local parts store and ask to have a look at their book(s). I noticed that the front SVX CV axles are pretty common among Subaru's. Sorry I cant remember exactly. But thats how I got mine after they told me that they didnt offer them for SVX's. Stupid parts counter guys

The whole axle is bigger when compared to legacy or impreza. In fact, the 2WD axles are larger than the AWD axles if I remember right. The joints are tougher.

I'll have to take a closer look when I work on my laguna next. and take a look at one of my other 2. I would definitely be able to confirm this.

Re: All Subaru 90's 4EAT AT axles the same?

This is a post from when I replaced mine..

CV axle replaced. Simple and easy! BTW if any parts store tells you they dont have one for your AWD SVX, tell them they are exactly the same as the FWD ones. This was confirmed by using the book. The parts guy seemed very annoyed when I asked to see his FENCO & GSP book. Then I confirmed fitment (same as the late 90's 2.5rs and a few others) and was on my way. Only cost $69 for a brand new one.

That doesn't meant the real part is the same. It means that they make one and it will fit those other cars. This is very common in the aftermarket parts industry. Just like they would sell you the same axle for a 92 car as they would a 94, even though the 94 and up have the BJ plastic boots.

The real part? Really? If it fits and we can get our hands on it, then that makes it "real" enough. Does it really matter if the band claps are different or the boot material is other than OEM type? Ummm no. I mean, really....

Parts supply dwindles for these cars daily. No nice way to put it. Ya got to take what you can get. And that is REAL.
