SVX running on 5cyl

Hey all. So my '92 SVX was running intermittently on 5cyl the past 2 weeks. It went from cutting in and out of running on 5 and 6 to now only running on 5. No CEL. I figured out it was the front driver's side plug not firing as I could unplug the coil without it changing the lumpy idle (if I pulled any others it would run on 4cyl). I put a plug in the coil while it was running and wasn't getting any spark. I checked voltage to the coil and I only had a digital multi meter but it was bouncing off of 0 volts. I replaced the coil with a junkyard coil and put a new plug and it didn't change anything.

The reason I don't think its the injector is that when I pull the plug out after it's been running on 5 it is wet and there is a strong fuel smell.

What would you try next? What would be a common cause of this? Is it not getting the full voltage to fire the coil? Is the ECU to blame?

Thanks, any help is greatly appreciated.
Chad

Re: SVX running on 5cyl

If the igniter is still present on the parts car id throw that in next. You checked the wiring from the coil right?

I checked the voltage going to the coil on plug and I only had a digital multi meter so it only bounced from 0v to maybe 5.5v while the car was running.

Where is the ignitor located physically in the car? The coil came mailorder from a junkyard. I wish there was a way to do a test before I order the igniter.

Is this the igniter?

Re: SVX running on 5cyl

ok, in summary. No fire on Cylinder 2? (driver's side front). Injector appears to be firing as the plug is wet when removed. I replaced the coil, new plug, and igniter with good used parts. When measuring voltage at the coil wires with a digital multimeter I am getting some voltage so it seems power is there. I also pulled the coil out and put a plug in it and it is definately not firing while running. What would you try next?

Resistance check the wire from that coil to the Ignitor, while moving the wire around.... the coils must have very good connection to the ignitor as they pull a lot of current.
