salvage title going clean?

is it true that you can do this on antique cars, as the title is no longer required when retitling?

AKA, registered and titled in NH. Go to NY and get a new title without providing the old one.

End result: Clean NY title???

Is this possible?

James

Re: salvage title going clean?

I dought it. Mine was Salvaged titled and I had it reconstructed. I believe once it is a reconstructed title it stays that way no matter where you go.

That's how it used to be. It works in reverse now (in Pennsylvania, anyway). When I bought my saab it had a Reconstructed Colorado title. When I brought it to PA, PA wouldnt honor it and it became a salvage certificate. I had to go through the process of having it OEM inspected and stuff to get it back into a PA Reconstructed title.

I have heard of titles losing their brands when transferred across state lines. This was years ago though. Things have gotten more strict.

Re: salvage title going clean?

more than likely the carfax would still show that it had been a salvage title even if you do get a "clean" title in hand. At this point the value of a clean title vs salvage title is not that big a deal. A salvage title could lower the value of a car by 40%, a big deal if you are looking at a $25K car, but a $3K car? not so much, IMO.

<< Go to NY and get a new title without providing the old one. >>

you cant just walk in and title it without proof of ownership. when they run the vin they will see what type of title it has and give you the same type.

Doesn't Georgia still only require a bill of sale?

Re: salvage title going clean?

Well, the clincher I believe is the antique status. The SVX doesnt have it yet, but it certainly will soon. You dont need last title with an antique car I thought. Meaning you can just show them the car, and get a new title.

The suggestion that NY could just look up my vin# and see the last title was NH salvage is interesting, though I dont know if this is correct... if so, my idea is of course garbage. But I have doubts that they have this ability.
