"STOP LIGHT" light on dash???

I'm not a complete moron...... but the light comes on when I press the brake.

The owners manual says I have a bulb burnt out.

...... Except I don't..... all the lights work.

??????????

Remove each bulb one by one until you find the one thats corroded. Clean or replace the socket and install new bulb sealed with di-electric grease

Re: "STOP LIGHT" light on dash???

So it's possible for a socket to still work, but tell the ECU that it isn't working???

Interesting.

I believe it keys off of drop in power consumption, which can be a burnt out bulb or a higher resistance connection. Theres a module in the right side of the trunk that power is fed through that monitors for that. If your tail lights are like mine before I resealed them, then they could allow ample condensation in there to screw with the bulb contacts.

Re: "STOP LIGHT" light on dash???

Are we talking about the brake light being on? I was a little unclear on what light we are talking about.

Re: "STOP LIGHT" light on dash???

^^^ No...

The idiot light on the dash that says "Stop Light" comes on every time I press the brake.

According to the owners manual, it means I have a brake light bulb out.

The confusing part, is that all my brake lights, turn signals, and backup lights all work perfectly.

You can wait for a 2nd opinion if you want, but id be out checking all of my tail bulb sockets, it doesnt take long to inspect them as they just twist out.

I bet $1000 and Park Place theres one with a corroded contact.....

That's a hasty bet. What with the module facing issues with getting wet and malfunctioning until dry being common (I've experienced this more than once), I'd say you could be wrong.

In Salt Lake City, Utah? ....... id have to say fat chance in this case. Unless he hosed down his car beforehand and didnt mention it. Id still have to give 3 to 1 odds that its the ol' condensation in the taillight housing causing bad connection deal.

If im wrong and you win, I will gladly send a crisp $3000 (in orange $500 bills, redeemable at any reputable Monopoly game).

Re: "STOP LIGHT" light on dash???

You know..... the light stopped coming on... now it's fine again.

I did finally get the car 100% legally registered today, so for the past couple days, I've thoroughly washed it, claybar'd it, waxed it (twice), thoroughly cleaned the interior, dyed the floormats and carpets, and sanded the wheels down to the bare metal, primed, and repainted.

Been busy... maybe a little condensation just did get in there during the wash.
