Exhaust

Basically I'm looking to do a new cat/back exhaust this summer. I'm going to buy a resonator and a muffler and do everything else myself with 2.5" tubing.

I want it to sound basically like this, I know its a corolla, hahaha but that sounds beautiful to me
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=suDv1CWOk5c

I'm thinking this resonator:
http://svx-motorsport-accessories.st...svxhiflre.html

I've been looking around at mufflers and I'm not sure what i should get. I've been looking at a few options and i wanna see if anyone has any opinions on anything.

1. The bullet muffler that Tom uses on his AWD bolt on kit. ($99)

2. The magnaflow Muffler from dale. ($105)
http://svx-motorsport-accessories.st...svxpemuon.html

3. Borla Turbo XL($242)
http://www.borla.com/products/produc...bo+XL+Mufflers

http://www.sfxperformance.com/parts/BOR40477.htm

4. Borla Pro XS ($169)
http://www.borla.com/proxs/pages/muflrtrans.php

http://www.wickednicky.com/borla-muf...ransverse.html

I want a clean sound, similar to that of a European car. Maybe the sound of an Audi. I don't want anything throaty sounding thats why I'm leaning away from the magnaflow. I also want it a little louder than the stock system but not obnoxiously loud.

Does any one have any suggestions for me about any of these or any other components to help me obtain what i want from my fine svx. I would love a stebro but theres no way i can afford one of those.

Thanks for any help.
Jeremy

Re: Exhaust

When I did mine I made it more straight line and free flowing with 2 1/2 in pipes, deleted the stock resonator and went through a flowmaster camero style free flowing performance muffler(not sure of the model) into 3 1/2 in tips and I've been told it sounds like a formula 1 racer or a Ferrari. It's quite throaty but also very clean crisp, and very nice sounding...

I'm going to do some audio clips this summer along with many other things. if you're still trying to decide by then maybe mine will help you too.

If you search on the forum there are quite a few links to videos and also some audio clips posted. look around see what you like. Good luck!

Re: Exhaust

Exhaust is the kind of thing where it really does just come down to your personal opinion. You could ask ten different people on here what they like, and you'd probably get ten different answers. Obviously we don't have as many options as most folks do in this regard, but asking someone what sounds "the best" is a surefire way to get nowhere fast.

For what it's worth, I love the sound of my 2.5" catback with a magnaflow muffler. Its barely louder than stock but has a throaty, racey tone to it. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Re: Exhaust

Another thing about exhaust systems is the fact that they will sound different depending on your engine mods. Cam change? Exhaust note and volume may change. Compression change? Same thing.

Re: Exhaust

I have an old clip from my magnaflow exhaust.

www.timeng.net/downloads/exhaust.avi

The knocking sound is the lens cap knocking against the microphone.

I now have the bullet muffler, which sounds similar but deeper, smoother, and a little quieter.

Re: Exhaust

Here's a video from the other week of my exhaust. Had a bit of an exhaust leak at the time, but you can't really tell a difference, since this is an in-car video anyway.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awc0V7AMVqY

2.5" mandrel bends with a gutted main cat, and magnaflow muffler.

Re: Exhaust

Here is a clip that didn't really upload correctly, but has sound none the less.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2npCO_twkg

The first of the 3 audio parts is my camera buzzing on the steering column at highway speeds and the other 2 are from a a stop sign, turning and then accelerating to about 70mph. You can hear the turn signal tick tick since it is my camera sitting on the pass seat w/ in car noise from the windows being down.

Re: Exhaust

Okay so I'm getting ready to do my exhaust (as listed below in OP) in the very near future.

I decided to go with the Magnaflow resonator and the borla pro xs transverse muffler and I'm going to have my own 2.5" tubing made.

I was also looking on dayles site and saw that he had hiflow cats. And i was just curious if you guys think it would be worth my while to do the cat while i'm down there? Would it make much of a difference to do it or should i save my money for something else?

This is the cat that I'm talking about:

Thanks,
