Rear diff ratio's for 5 speed swap

I just bought an 05 WRX transmission the other day, I was asked if I also needed the rear and I told him no because my car has some rear diff in it already and I knew it had an WRX trans in it for a while so I assumed it was a 3.90. Upon asking the previous owner he says its a stock SVX rear but that the ratio is the same as the WRX... But from what I've found so far the rear of an SVX is 3.55. Is this correct? Do I need to go back and buy the rear diff or is he correct and I sould save my money?

Re: Rear diff ratio's for 5 speed swap

If I remember correctly the center diff of a WRX transmission has a 1.1 to 1 stepdown, so they use a 3.54 R160.

Re: Rear diff ratio's for 5 speed swap

When my son did his conversion (I paid for the parts) I bought a 2004 WRX tranny and rear diff. My son swapped both and then found that the SVX axles would not fit in correctly, and found that the SVX rear diff worked perfectly...so now I'm stuck with a 2004 rear diff and no use for it. I believe the 2005 is exactly the same so stick with your SVX rear diff.

Re: Rear diff ratio's for 5 speed swap

Thanks, saved me 70 bucks =)

Minor problem with the tranny, it has a mounting stud broke off... Can I replace that pretty easily?
