Quick Change Update.

Since the release of the Quick Change, 6 months ago, there are about 25 out there running on cars in the US, Aust and NZ. Up to date there have only been good reports, on the way it speeds up the slow changes. There have been no reports of the sort of problems that a few, uninformed pessimists predicted, I was sure there wouldn’t be.

I have been trying to get it tested over the quarter, but haven’t had any luck. Now Wannarace 928 has done it. Not ‘back to back’ runs, but with no other changes, it has shown a 0.27 off the time, and a higher speed.

So I think we can safely say it won’t hurt your time, and more that likely will knock 0.2 off it.

Harvey.

Re: Quick Change Update.

That's easily believable, if not more. The shifts with the oe setup are probably the #1 hurdle to decent drag times and the more power you have the worse they get.

Re: Quick Change Update.

Longassname, really? The more power you have, the worse the shifts become? Am I reading what you've said correctly? It's not that I don't believe you, but I'm just curious why that would be.

I'm afraid I won't be much help on before/after, as I'm planning on doing a QC along with my 4.11's and a few other things all at once! Hope to run a low/flat 15.00 with these additional mods. Guess we'll just wait and see! lol

You'll be hearing from me in a few weeks Harvey! That would make a nice easrly christmas present for myself.

Re: Quick Change Update.

You read correctly. I remember when I first ran a 165hp shot of nitrous it felt like i was spending more time between gears than in them.

Re: Quick Change Update.

As you improve the performance, the time that it spends in the change, 'doing nothing' becomes a higher percentage of the ET.

As soon as you try it, you realise how much time was lost with slow shifts.

Re: Quick Change Update.

Hey Harvey!
I just read the entire thread on the other forum.

It seems most of you have some amount of work done to your cars, i.e. trans swaps, ECU chips, intakes, exhausts.

How would this feel on a completely STOCK SVX?
Im looking to firm up the shifts and i have svxfiles Custom Dropping Resistor Mod ( http://svxfiles.com/custom.html#resistor {not installed yet}), im also excited to feel that thrown in the back seat feeling with the 1-2 shift.

please let me know.

I designed it to suit the STOCK SVX.

My 95 is stock, and it changes gears the way I always wanted it to. Fast and hard when I get on the pedal, smooth and easy when I’m just cruising.
The lower gearing does make it harder on the changes, due to the higher torque, but those with 4.44s and the QC don’t seem to complain about it.

Changing the dropping resistor for a higher value will raise the line pressure in relation to how far the pedal is down. So that when you go to change gears, the line pressure is higher, than it would normally be for the amount of throttle movement.
It’s a pseudo effect, as the line pressure is still reduced as the change takes place, and the engine torque is still reduced by 50%, so it won’t be faster.

There are reasons that the line pressure variation, to throttle position, should stay normal. It is this control over the line pressure that the TCU uses as a ‘known fact’ to base the percentage of Duty Cycle signal, sent to the B and C solenoids. If the line pressure is higher, then the pressure applied to the lock-up and Transfer clutch will be higher, which can cause a binding transfer clutch, or bumpy light throttle changes.

I don’t know for sure how Tom did the Resistor Mod, with or without the switch? So I can’t comment on it.

Harvey.

Re: Quick Change Update.

I was referring to your offer for the smallcar kit... No need to get all defensive here.

As per my personal experience and intel... Smallcar kit stresses the tranny more thus limiting its life.

Hahah, no harm done. And yes, I'd heard not so great things about the smallcar kit, but I have another tranny that I'm putting in anyway, so I figured I'd at least run it for a little while!

The Small Cars Kit can't hurt the transmission at all.

Harvey.
