Long time, guys...Winterizing.

Hey guys...Long time no see...

As you all know, I'm no mechanic, but I'm winterizing the SVX; oil change, coolant system flush and fill, fixing the windshield washer system, chasing down the road hum (I hope it's not a wheel bearing)...MAJOR pre-salt cleaning, etc., etc...

Stupid question...What is the fluid capacity of the coolant system?
I opened the radiator cap, reservoir cap and let it drain via the petcock on the radiator, and now adding a 50/50 mix back in, I didn't quite hit 2 gallons? Seems a bit shy to me, but I'm going to let it idle for a minute with everything open and see if it burps...If that's all she holds, we're good, but I thought I'd check.

Funny side note; it had been leaking a touch of trans fluid lately, so while I was under there I checked the "custom" external filter, lines, etc...NOTHING was more than hand-tight under there and it was all leaking all over the place...Even the filter wasn't even hand tight! No wonder I've had to add fluid to it somewhat regularly! If you have a swap by the guy that did mine, have a trusted (non-stoned) mechanic re-check and tighten everything, because it's probably about to fall right off your car, lol!

Anyways...Anything else you guys can think of that I should look into on this before winter, let me know...Thanks!

~M

Re: Long time, guys...Winterizing.

Rubbing some Sil-Glyde or equivalent into the door gasket/seals can't hurt...

Re: Long time, guys...Winterizing.

cooling system w/ a stock radiator is just under 2gallons... so you should be good there... Everything else seems like it is in line for a good winterization. Gordon's idea about the door jam lube is a really good idea to keep the seals from icing together

Re: Long time, guys...Winterizing.

What is "pre-salt cleaning"? Giving the salt a good clean surface to adhere to?

Re: Long time, guys...Winterizing.

If your winters are like ours n NH, then recommend a set of dunlop sp wintersport M3s - they are great on snow and ice but still quiet and capable while cruising the highway at speeds on those nice days

Re: Long time, guys...Winterizing.

Not running dedicated snows yet, but I'll definitely keep them in mind for next year!
I've used Pirelli (W Sports?) before and LOVED them...There's something to be said for dedicated snow tires.

Now I have to go change the oil.

Thanks guys!

Re: Long time, guys...Winterizing.

OK, got the oil changed, added some BRIGHT headlamp bulbs (damn, those are pricey!), sanded/polished the headlamp lenses, etc...

Now I have to track down the "thump!" in the front (on accel/decel...Strut?) and the "hummmmm" correlating to road speed (hope it's NOT a wheel bearing)...

OH, and find out why the washers aren't working (pump or clog) and get it sorted...

We're getting there...
