Temp guage oscillation

Seems as though something went awry while I was stuck in 4 hours of traffic today. The A/C stopped blowing cold air and the temp guage started making it's way up from the 1/2 way mark to the 3/4 mark I'm thinking thermostat. I didn't really see any antifreeze leaking though. Any recommendations?

Re: Temp guage oscillation

Pan test it (Thermostat) ... I had the same thing happen to me but I could see upon inspection that my top of the radaitor had cracked. I am also going to pan test the Therm. I have a feeling the cracking is causing the problems. I hope it is just the Thermostat as that isnt expensive.

Re: Temp guage oscillation

If it ends up being my radiator, it'll give me a reason to get the PWR radiator/transmission cooler. Hopefully it's just the thermostat though.

not an SVX but I had a collant leak iin my XT and didn't find it for months, as it wasn't always there. (turned out to be a pipe to the water pump.)

Re: Temp guage oscillation

sounds just like my old teally... Never found anything wrong with it but it only happened driving up hills or in traffic on really hot days....Seemed to just over stress the cooling system esp. with the AC condenser getting really hot. When it cools down, check the coolant levels in the overflow and in the radiator and also be sure both fans have good operation at all 3 speeds.
