Arrow Is it repairable

Just a thought. Do you think my wifes red 96 Lsi could be fixed, and what would it cost. My own personal mechanic and body shop guy said it can but its a lot of damage. Just a thought. If I wanted to fix it, I would have to ask the insurance company not to Total it right. The expenses to fix it would exceed what they would give me right. Man, I wish it was an easier fix.

Re: Is it repairable

The car would never be the same again. I'd just find another one.

Re: Is it repairable

It may be repairable, but it would cost so much more than the car is worth. I bought one that had the passenger side front corner damaged. The estimate was $12,000 to fix it. It was no where near what damage is on yours. I replaced the front clip and fixed it that way. It still cost quite a bit, but there is one more 93 on the road because of that. Link to pictures of the car. A couple of panels had not been put back on in the pictures.

Re: Is it repairable

Dan,

Having seen your car in person before this tragedy, I am positive that it could never be repaired to look and run as if the accident had never happened. For what it would cost you in parts and repairs OVER what the insurance company gives you, you could by a 96 or 97 accident-free SVX.

You went to great lengths to make the car as safe and reliable as you possibly could before you gave it to your wife. To have a car totaled twice and rebuilt twice would not let you sleep at night where safety was concerned.

The other issue is what effects the stresses of this accident had on the components which may (or may not) have been fixed properly from the first accident. Although they may not be evident now, the fatigue and stress on other systems may appear unexpectedly (just like the frame welding issue that was never caught by anyone until svxfiles just happened to see it.

Just buy it back from the insurance company and hold onto whatever parts you want for your Polo, possible pearlie, or your next red SVX. You can sell whatever you have and come out better all around.

Once the accident has been resolved and all legal issues have been addressed, you may be in the position to buy that next red one outright, knowing it is safe and reliable and that you have a ready supply of great parts on hand for whatever comes up.

Let me know if you need anything. I, as well as the members here, will keep and eye out for that next Brilliant Red in your future.

I still like the Swiss Ruby Mica and black without a spoiler, or all Swiss Ruby and just a black roof...

What the guys said Dan. This can not be fixed for an economic price. You could probably buy two good un-crashed red cars for what it would take to fix that damage.

Buy the car back off the insurance and store it safely. You will get value by selling off parts from it, which will part finance buying a better car.

A laguna blue would be a good find either, if you are not totally stuck on red.

Re: Is it repairable

What Joe said. Find one that is clean and reliable and try to buy back your old one. There are parts there that will more than reimburse you if you have the space to store it.

Re: Is it repairable

Detailed pictures f any an all damages, plus the ensimate and a figure the insurance company is willing to pay sure would help decide wether its worth it or not. and the whole "never be the same again" is a loaad of malarky...you just need to make sure EVERYTHING is back to factory spec or better.

Dan.
She did what she was supposed to do! She died protecting your wife and unborn child!

Do not let those parts die too, but, it's time to find another body.
You can build 2 more cars out of the remaines from this one!

Just DON'T let the insurance co sell you short!
