Subaru-Toyota sports coupe

Local magazine here reports of a joint venture for a RWD coupe. Info suggests a Toyota chassis, Impreza 2.0 4cyl - cars would be available to both manufacturers, being mechanically identical and but individual body style/design. Toyota is to lead the engineering development and Subaru to manufacture both vehicles with strong influence from the B9 scrambler and B11S designs.

So whilst not a SVX sized replacement (huge shame) , more of a MX-5 sized car I think it has merit.

Time frame indicates 2010 production.

cheers
bruce

That sounds pretty sexy to me. Both awesome car manufacturers of performance vehicles. Something very good(or very bad) could come out of this. I will be waiting updates.

I think we saw this coming from a long way away, as Toyota bought up most of GM's Suby stock. I recall hinting at Subaru borrowing Toyota's hybrid techonology.
I don't think however, I can accept a new Alcyone (B11s) with a [partial?] Toyota powerplant.
Then again, Subaru may not be confident in designing their own.
As well they shouldn't be.

interesting...

I'm a fan of both cars.... but honestly thing the twin turbo h6 would be cooler than some gay automatic hybrid, although I like the idea of a hybrid, but automatic... come on.... ewww.

did some more research looks like they are planning on releasing a few joint ventures looks like the first before re releasing the celica and using the half B11 half celica design they plan to release another car: http://www.autoblog.com/2007/08/01/r...-more-details/ and another url of more info more partaining to subaru:
http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/26/t...big-questions/
Just what I found, both seem to be ending up with toyota logos on them at the current time... but this one deff looks like a subie.

The last merger of sorts that was actually something to look forward to was the "new" 914 with a mid engine STi motor. That would have kicked a$$. A new Celica? eh. Toyota needs a high performance car very soon, and not some bloated Lexus.

The Toyota concept pictured does share some design DNA with the B11S

I for one applaud the effort. I just hope they inject a dose of HP into the pair.

The LF-HS apparently is a design base for the new Celica, a traditionally cheap sports coupe, GT Four excluded..
The B11s if developed would be the greatest vehicle Subaru has ever released.

The Alcyone sharing it's heritage with a Celica is blashpemy and cheapens Subaru's image.

Hopefully Toyota just wants to use Subaru's powerplant and will have no influence is Subaru's actual lineup.
