Headlights
Well I'm out a left low-beam headlight so I'm looking for a replacement. I've seen this link from Ebay and I like the idea of getting HID's:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/BLUE-9006-XENON-H...QQcmdZViewItem But I really have no idea what to look for or anything or if that's a good deal or what. Anyone know if those are decent? Or if not where I should shop for others? I also want to get clear headlight covers. Anyone know where to get those? Why're these so much cheaper? Quality? http://cgi.ebay.ca/92-97-Subaru-SVX-...QQcmdZViewItem

If you are shopping for HIDs, let me be the first to suggest to you to go with a set of Lavalux HIDs from SVXFiles. I have seen this product in person, installed in a few SVXs, and will be ordering a set for my Claret.
PM SVXFiles for details or do a search.

Get a hold of SVXfiles. With his HID kit you know you're getting quality stuff and the service is great. It's a few bucks more, but I'd say it's worth it. Somewhere there is a thread with testimonials to the quality of his kit from about 20-30 members here.
There's a link to his site is in my signature...

What comes with a kit? Are there different bulbs for foglights, low baems and high beams? I don't know how headlights work. What kind of bulbs do I need if I don't want to order from SVXfiles.

Any "conversion" kit you buy will be for one pair of lights, in this case the low beams. It will include 2 ballasts, which must be mounted somewhere nearby. The ballasts will plug in to the harness you currently use for your low beam bulb. The other end of the ballast will plug in to the new HID bulb. Which should fit into your headlight housing just like the stock halogen bulb.
I highly recommend buying them from SVXfiles though. Aftermarket stuff nowadays is always of questionable quality and you get what you pay for. There are 20 differnt companies throwing HID kits up on ebay by the hundreds every day. These may not be the best quality. They are also most definitely NOT tested on the SVX. Go the thread suggested and read up. There are over 30 SVX owners here that have installed SVXfiles kit and are pleased. We KNOW these fit well and work well on the SVX. Something else might require some modification to work, and then they might burn out in 3 months and you are out the money. You also need to read the thread and decide what type HID you want. There are several different "temperatures" that determine how colored or bright they are. The bluer they are, the dimmer (while still being far brighter than stock), the whiter, the brighter. Trust me, go with SVXfiles and you won't be disappointed. If time or money is an issue at the moment, it sounds like all you have is a burnt out bulb. Just go drop $7 on a new halogen bulb and save up.

P.S. - On the issue of fogs, highs, etc. Once you replace your low beams with HIDs, there is really no need to upgrade the high beams or fog lights. But if you wanted to, you would have to buy a seperate kit for each of those as well. Each one is a different type of bulb of course. But the smart money says if you want more light, just upgrade the low beam. You'll probably never want more light again, but if you do, the stock halogen high beam will be enough enhancement, not really worth upgrading that one as well, IMO.

High beams are 9005. Fog lights are H3.
I have the Lavalux HIDs installed in my low beams and my fog lights as well. There is more visible illumination coming out of HID fog lights alone than stock low beams. During snowstorms, I disconnect my headlights and run only fog lights. Photos in my new locker HERE .
