Scratched side glass?

I just had my windows re-tinted and noticed both the driver and passenger side glass has two vertical "strips" of abrasion on the glass.
Is this a common problem, and if so, what is the fix?

I also have this problem. Much more so on one side than the other.

I've seen it listed by many people as an issue, but no fixes I know about.

The way to keep it from getting worse is to clean or preferably replace the glide pads that keep the window in position.

I noticed the same thing when I first bought my 96.It's the stabilizers in the door. The inners are easy to fix(recover). The outers are tricky to get out. About 9-10 bucks ea.Look at them as being sacrificial.A guy who tints glass told me tinting over the scratches made them look worse, sounds like he was right from your experience.

The abrasion strips are on the out side (non-tint side). Did you replace the "stabilizers" in your doors? If so, could you describe the procedure briefly, and what parts you replaced?

Thanks

you can get a glass polishing kit (cerium oxide powder and a buffing wheel) from JC Whitney. mix the powder into a slurry and buff away at it, but if they're too deep, you may be out of luck.

you could also get it professionally done- don't know how much that costs.

i would replace the felt-covered window guides soon before it gets worse, though.

I'm guessing that #3, 4, and 5 may be the culprit, no?

subaruparts.com has got what you need.Attachment 10345 Four on each door 2 inner 2 outer takes about an hour to replace them.I recovered mine using boat seat material turned inside out and contacted to the nylon keeper.seems to be working fine, but my glass is to far gone and I'm getting new come spring. keep us posted

You can't really ever fix it properly, I've replaced them like 3 times on my car, and the sash seal as well. They get dirty and scratch the glass. I just never used my windows anymore. The second time, I spent over six hours adjusting the glass so that it would make minimal contact with the stabilizer pads, and that helped alot, but it's not perfect. You'll notice that this is a common problem on Subarus, they can't seem to fix it. My 94 legacy did it, my 98 forester did it, etc.

Dang. I never saw it until I spent a couple of Franklins re-tinting my windows. Guess I'll have to live with it, though, I am going to try and "polish" the scratches. Thanks for everyone's help. Gotta love this forum! BTW, since I have lurked here for a couple of years, I PayPal'd a hundred bucks to support the forum. Just challenging all the users here to do their part as well.

Mirrored tint

Has anyone tinted their windows with the mirrored type, maybe this might visually lessen the scratches.

New window glass

I priced the door lower glass windows, and heres the prices from 1stsubaru,

Left Bronze $155.71
Right Bronze $152.21

The blue glass is in the same price range. I need to replace both of mine, especially the drivers side which is really badly scuffed.
