Are the gearbox mount bolts spacing the same on the 5 speed as the 6 speed. Reason I ask is I have a 5 speed in now and hope that I can use the modified mounts I have for it.

You guy are a big help I would hate to do this job on my own. Is there any tricks I need to watch out for with the clutch plate and forks when I install the 6 speed never done one of these.

Keep the TOB(throw out bearing) on the pressure plate. As you are installing the trans keep the bell housing about 2-3" away from the engine so you can just barely shine a light on the TOB. Then with the clutch fork that is dangling in the bell housing. Manuver it so the fork slide into the TOB arms. Then mate the trans and the engine. Next step is to grease the pivot pin and slide it into the bell housing and make sure it slides into the clutch fork as well... Use a 6x1.00 bolt, thread it into the pivot pin and turn it clockwise until the bolt bottoms out. It will turn the pivot pin as you press in until the groove in the other end of the pin lines up with the roll pin.

Tom the Subaru guys made a different suggestion yesterday, I was going to do it your way and they said that I should try this.
Release the circlip from the TOB so as to remove it from the pressure plate.
Put forks, pin and TOB all back in the gearbox before putting it back on the engine.
When the gearbox is mounted on the engine then push the forks in the opposite direct to the way they normally go and the TOB will lock intot he pressure plate.
So I am going to try and see which works best. I think your suggestion is safer as you know its all good when you move it forward.

Tom how do I extend the cable on the 6 speed linkage?

I cut the circle end off the cable and weld in a 3.5" extension. Do the same with the mounting bracket as well

Does any one have the parts to convert the SVX axles to suit the R 180 diff can't seem to find them here in Oz at the moment. I am still looking.

Okay next question do I need the full inside CV joint as I thenk the only thing for it is to buy it from Subaru.
