Someone on here has the Momo steering wheel off a WRX mounted in his SVX... I forget who it is though.... Looks great, but he didn't connect the airbag for whatever reason...

Hey Joe, would you happen to know if there's any of those JDM/ UK( i think they were in the UK too) tan steering wheels for sale or trade over there?? I like the look of those. And I like the center push thing for the horn anyway.

At one time I mistakenly thought UK cars only came with airbag. This is not correct; the early cars came with the wheel as in Nomake Wan's picture above, no airbag. From 92-93 however, for sure they always had the airbag for any cars after that time. Can't help with that one. Joe

I have a 92 w/ airbag in a wheel that some stupid fool took the leather wrap off of. I would love to put a momo wheel in my car if the death bag could be hooked up to it.

Airbags - or not
Joe,
I have less of a problem with current (second generation) airbags than I did with the first generation ones we have in our cars. When the idea of the airbag (or, to be correct, the hydrogen azide bag) was introduced, the safety engineers really didn't know what would happen when they went off. So just about everything else in the driving position was compromised to make sure the bag hit the driver exactly in the face. In my Alfa 164, I cannot tilt the column to get the driving position I like, so I always feel as if I am reaching slightly UP for the wheel. In my Capri, the seat was lowered and the column raised, so again, I have to drive "up." The installation of a couple of 1/2 inch risers between the seat rails and the bottom of the seat, plus some washers in the U-bolt that holds the column should get me the proper position. Because of the tilt-telescope wheel in the SVX, I can get a perfect position, but still with that huge, bulgy wheel center. By the way, I like a horn button in the center of the wheel. All three of my cars have little fiddly buttons to blow the horn, instead of a big centerpiece I can whang with my fist. In regards to small drivers who have to sit close to the wheel, back in 1990, I arranged for my daughter to buy a Mazda Miata out of the press fleet. Turns out it was the first one eligible to be sold in the U.S., serial no. xxx000090. She is exactly 5 feet tall, and has to drive close to the wheel, and low. I think about it a lot when she drives the car. (It is off the road now, awaiting restoration after 189,000 miles.) P.

They do not just "Bolt on"...... You Really need a whole steering column to make it right... And the radio controls do not work on a US car.... ...just some advise from someone who has already went through it...

Hey Paul I know where you are coming from re the "air" bags I too would worry about your daughter sitting close to the wheel in the Miata. In a heavy crunch the bag will be the lesser of two evils, and will have a protecting role. Where I get worried is with a small thump hard enough to blow the bag, but not a heavy impact. In that scenario, the bag can actually do unnecessary damage, neck damage and so on. One possible fix for her would be to fit a false bulkhead and move the pedals back nearer to her. It would be more comfortable driving and shift her back from the wheel. I would think about rising the driver seat also. The Miata is already a low car, it would affect nothing except her comfort and safety. You are obviously a Giugiaro man! The 164 has almost the exact same band of lights across the back as the SVX. Joe

Good lord thats a big picture...
Do you happen to know how well it went on? Bolt on, or some "convincing" needed? I like it, but don't think it would go with the tan interior

Don't know much about it, I just happened to see this pic in a thread where he was talking about installing the WRX seats (that's why the pic is more focused on the passenger seat). I would think there would be a thread on here somewhere where he talks about installing the wheel, but I can't find it. Sicksubie is his handle if you want to PM him.
Do WRXes come with beige interior as well? Probably not. Maybe if you could find a black wheel?

nope...no beige int. in a WRX....but there are some nice ones with woodgrain on the wheel in some of the top of the line Outbacks (LL Bean's and such) that might look good with the Beige SVX LSI interior....

Yeah I knew they didn't come in beige. But maybe if I put the seats in, and dyed the rest of the interior... Guess this is one of those things thats only looks good for you Grey interior guys. Not the first time I curse the ugly color of my interior.
