The forensics of love?

I brought my '95 UK car home in late July. I have a few things to tidy up on her before I use her everyday, a front wheel bearing the most difficult of these.

These last two weeks I have been using a leather conditioner to clean and soften the black leather seats. These seats are in a pretty good condition, but the various panels have got hard in places, so I am feeding them conditioner to soften them up. It is working very well so far.

Like a scene from CSI this softening process has thrown up some interesting marks on the leather not visible while the leather is shiny from sitting on it.

In the back seats there are marks on the leather from people reaching back to get the seat belt buckle, left and right, both long panels. Likewise these marks are on the centre panels close the the buckle cinch.

I'm presuming these marks are caused by fingernails scoring the leather surface as the person searches for either the belt or for the centre belt anchor. These marks, or some of them could be caused by rings either, but I'm betting fingernails.

The interesting part of this forensic analysis, the front passenger seat has tons of fingernail scratches all over the panels of the seat. Both on the lower seat bolster and all over the back panels of the seat back.

You can call me narrow-minded if you like, but there is no way a passenger was looking for a seat belt all over the front and back panels of this seat.
[In case you wondered, we never got the automatic belts over here, always the retracting type]

I have to figure my car was a Passion Wagon for somebody in the distant past.

So be careful what evidence you fellows might be leaving behind you.

Joe

Never thought of the SVX as a passion-wagon. In fact, I can think of few cars that make a worse passion-wagon! Maybe the Toyota MR2, or maybe the old Berkeley T60, but not by much. A Morgan three-wheeler offers about the same room as the SVX! On the other hand, in the heat of the moment even an Isetta will fill the bill. Wash your hands after you treat that leather!

Have done, Preston, have done!

There is nearly as much room on a motorbike!

A younger brother of mine reckons his favourite position is with the ladyfriend perched forward of the steering wheel, and the sunroof open. I can't say I've tried it and I doubt it is included as a position in the Kama Sutra.

I suppose as you say when the need arises......

I'm glad that is all in the past, Danny.

We would not want the old SVX abused in any way.

Does your current daily driver also work as a nightly driver?

I got you.

My friend Mike worked there for quite a few years. I know I would hate it.

I bet you drive the Z in the middle of the road when passing the entrance to Arab estates??

I call shenanigans. There's barely enough room for one person back there!

...that being said, the implications are staggering...

My own eyebrows are still up there!

Still, the marks are there and it is difficult to come up with another explanation.

We will put it down to human ingenuity.

[No such marks on the driver's seat BTW. I checked. In case I was seeing things.]

Is there any way the marks could be from moving the seat back?
A kids car seat buckles?
Dog harness?
If not when do we see pictures?

Kid's car seat? Maybe.

Pictures?

We are talking black leather here, hard to photograph. I'll see what I can do.

Purely in the interests of sociological research, you understand.

Do you know who the prior owners of your vehicle are?

If not and you would like to find them, I suggest searching the local area for contortionists or midgets (or contortionist midgets).
