As others said, just get some high wattage bulbs for reverse, brake and turn signals if you want more light output (but its definitely gud for reverse lights, as stock ones are way dimmer). Checkout danielstern's webpage, he has a large collection of name branded bulbs (little pricey though in some cases). But you can find some high wattage bults at any autostore.

I am talking about cornering lights, not blinkers. They would be on steady when the signal was on. I almost did this by installing amber 1194 bulbs on the outer side of the waterfall, and adding a relay to switch the two corner lenses on when there was power to the flasher.

I am in the process of a unique headlight wiring mod. This involves cutting power to the headlight relays, through a separate switch, while the column stalk is in the normal headlight position.

When I turn the headlights on, via the column switch, my HID headlights come on and I can turn on my HID fog lights as well. If needed, I can use the separate switch to cut power to the headlights, leaving me with the ability to drive with only HID fog lights (which is plenty)

With the lower beam pattern of the fog lights, I should be able to drive in snow without distracting oncoming drivers. As a test, I blocked off the HID projector bulbs to see what the output and beam pattern was for the HID fogs, and it was more than adequate!

When additional light is needed, I can either turn the headlights back on and turn on the high beams, which disconnects the fog lights.

This mod involves cutting one small red wire and is easily reversible.

Yeah these are pretty bright. At least once a day I get somebody flashing their lights at me thinking I have my highs on.

Has anyone noticed the HB3 and HB4 castings into our bottom of the lenses in our headlight assemblies? The outer edge of each headlight assembly says HB4 (9006 bulbs) and around the middle of the lens is the HB3 lettering (for the 9005 bulb)

True OEM projector HID systems have "HID" cast into the lenses instead. A really savvy (and anal) law enforcement could make a case for their removal from our cars, as the lenses reveal the legal bulbs. We just can't say "This is how they came"

Here are some extreme close-up photos of these markings. The slight amount of "grainy-snowy" stuff on the inside of the lenses is the disintegration of the edges of the projector lens from friction and vibration inside the housing where they are mounted.

I may buy a NEW set of headlights. I would then take the current headlight assemblies apart (using the oven method), mark the position of the projector lenses and take them out of the housing. vacuum and clean all of the debris thoroughly from the housing and then re-bed the lenses, using a bead of silicone around the edges to seal and cushion the lenses from vibration, eliminating this problem in the future.

Or I may hold off as my sister is going to Germany in March for two weeks on business. If she can score a used or new set of glass headlights, I would still take them apart and put the glass lenses on the US housings (to keep our bulb configuration and the fog lights)

both my Alfas work like that. When you switch on the headlight switch to parking lamps position, you can switch on both (front/rear) fog lights. I use front fog lights most of my commute time, when there is light light outside rather than using headlights all the time.

HID's in snow

I had my first experience today driving at night while it's snowing. We got a good dump tonight, during my drive I would say the white stuff was coming down in moderate heavyness. No blowing. I didn't notice any particular adverse effects from the HID's. The 6000K definitely produces a blue tint on the snow, but there was no more hindrance to visibility than with normal hologen bulbs. Switching to high beams reduced visibility.

One thing I did notice is that the spot where you can see the light in the snow flakes the most is about 5' about the front bumper, not in front of the car where I would expect to see. Maybe this is just because of the angles involved with the reflection. Turning the high beams on moved the bright spot higher up.
