for example, i went to Richmond, VA years back to pickup a 1996 svx i won on ebay. it was totally not the car that was in the pictures and was as 'immaculate' as a $2 hooker. i listed the vin so that members knew what they were getting into before driving 10 hours to get let down. but yeah, if i ever choose to sell my svx, it'll probably be for much higher than 'bluebook' or some average joe selling it on ebay. For those who do not like the price: Don't buy it. quite simple actually. in regards to parting, it's sad earl, but if the owner wants to get the most money out of his svx, that might be the only option. As time goes on, you will see that the well maintained SVXes will be going for more than Blue Book because they are just that - well maintained. There is a difference between maintenance and documented maintenance. Also restoration is the other thing that has been mentioned. It will become harder to find a good SVX in the future (years down the road) that is not held together with duct tape and sheet metal screws. As parts become harder to find, it may become an issue as well. I don't see that parts will be an issue, because many are parting out cars that are running and just want to make some money on them. Value is something that is personal. If the price is worth it to you, you will buy it. If it is too high, don't buy it. It is simple supply and demand.
Ok, I will get off of my soap box now.

Solar, who did you get to insure it for a $15k agreed policy. I too have been trying to get a collector car agreed policy for mine with little sucess (had one company willing but they were B rated which scared me a bit). To me collision is worthless as it'll pay out at most $3500ish after a $500 deductable for mine at a tune of $300 more a year. I know I can't replace mine for $4k.

thanks for splitting this off... I do appreciate all input but I am not affected by any opinions... I know what I want and I won't budge in getting it. It may be discouraging for potential buyers to see that my car may not be worth it to others but it is worth it to me and hopefully it should be worth it to others, considering, to get the same result you would need months of down time and a lot more $ to get another SVX to where mine is... So all that being said, thanks mods for keeping an eye on the thread but now I fear it is taking a turn for the worse in a different direction

Tomn, you should know by now that SVX'ers are the cheapest penny-pinchers to walk the face of the earth. since i first started browsing this board, there have been numerous "that's too much - it might be worth $_____" posts in response to people trying to sell their cars on here. for the folks who like to appraise the value of SVX's in their spare time - try to refrain from that - you waste your time and aren't helping anybody. if you'd like to make an offer on a car, or have questions about it, try a PM. otherwise, go find a hobby. i didn't read the other thread, but i hope Tomn is able to sell his car for what he thinks its worth, because i'm sure based on his reputation its a top-notch vehicle. good luck, but you can't be suprised by the tightwaddery around here.

I, for one, welcome our Opinion-Free Clasified Ad Overlords!
Here at work, there is nothing more frustrating than showing a vehicle to a "customer" and have them immediately let me know that we're asking too much for a vehicle b/c "there's one down the street for $____" or "Kelly says it should be $____." And that's on a new and certified pre-owned car lot. They haven't even driven it yet. Most of them haven't even let me open the hood! On the flip-side, when the same people are trading in their car, you would think it just rolled off of the showroom floor by what they expect to get for it. Suddenly Kelly Blue Book no longer exists. So, aside from a little venting about unrealistic expectations from customers, what is my point? A Subaru SVX is a TEN YEAR OLD CAR AT BEST. No matter what Kelly, Edmunds, Black Book, etc.. says, our cars are worth whatever the market will bear. No more, no less. If Tom wants to ask $100K for his car, that's his business. If he gets it, more power to him! (Personally, Tom, I would have padded your asking price at least $2K to allow for some negotiation. Let them feel like they won something!) B/C at this point in the game, it's all about PERCEIVED VALUE. If you do not see the value in the vehicle being sold, you aren't going to buy it. But sharing an opinion on the value of a vehicle offered for sale on this forum is not productive, for anybody. Think about it - On a car lot, it's between you and the salesperson. Your extensive "knowledge" of automotive values only has the potential to affect your transaction. But on a forum like this, your opinion will linger for every other potential buyer to read, thereby hurting someone's chance to sell their vehicle. And, just like real estate, won't it be great when it does get sold for the asking price he has set? Think how that's going to affect our own property values! Now, Tom, I will share this much with you - Loan value on a '97 LSi was about $6500.00 back in March. Yours is a '92, and although your buyer will see the value in your upgrades, the bank will not. So when you do get an interested buyer at your asking price, they're either going to have the money in the bank, or they're going to need the strength of credit to get an unsecured note to buy the car. I really think that is going to be your biggest hurdle. My two cents have officially been cashed in. Thank you! Good night! I'll be here all week! Last edited by rhodesy; 07-12-2007 at 03:47 PM. |

i have progressive car insurance in florida, i asked to do a stated amount of insurance, you can try that with your company it will cost you extra of course but its a good peace of mind hagerty and grundy would touch it, because its not classified as a colectors car, i hope it will be some day, they said it must be over 20 years old, and i havent ever really seen a import conisdered a collectors car,

As for imports not being considered a collector car, you're forgetting about the Europeans. Hee-hee. Hagerty would insure my XT6 next year they told me but that isn't much help.
