What was your first Subaru?
I found this photo of my first Subaru stuck in a book last night. Was a 1986 GL-10 Turbo I purchased new. Had the air suspension, orange read-out digital dash and white spoker wheels. Great beach car. Only problem I ever had was a busted timng belt at 40,000 miles. Traded it in in 1992 for a Legacy wagon. No SVX's in the showroom but I did take a brochure and told my wife I would own one some day.

Mine was an tan 85 GL Wagon, also had the orange digi dash, but no turbo or air ride like yours. I went through about five more wagons before I started piecing together my current fleet in 1999 when I bought my Legacy, then the SVX, then the Brat.

My parent's first Subbie was a silver 1990-ish Legacy that got unhappy if left in all wheel drive.

First
1981 GLF. It was a red FWD 5spd. These were Subarus idea of a sporty 2dr with trunk luggage rack. My favorite Subie prior to the SVXs was a 1986 Turbo XT GL10, FWD 5spd.

1985 GL Wagon 4WD 5Spd, Red, Brown cloth interior.
It had about 160,000 on it in 1994-95 when I was in England and got rear-ended so hard it bent the frame. It now sits in a junk yard just outside RAF Mildenhall, England. So its a world travelled GL Wagon!! I learned how to drive stick in that car.

1986 Subaru GL wagon, bought new from Boomershine Subaru in Marietta, Ga. Five speed manual, dual-range AWD, white spoke wheels (like those in the first photo), AC, dealer-installed cruise, engine skid plate, flat-black roof rack, AM/FM radio. No fuel injection, no air ride, no power steering, no power locks nor windows. I think we paid $11,400.
[sniff... sniff] Man, I miss that car. Subaru should still make the thing. Bought it new and drove it hard for 200,000+ miles; sold in 2000, rusted and smoking but still haulin'. Never replaced the clutch, and not only did I learn to drive a stick in this car, but I taught my daughter years later. We broke a timing belt around 40,000 miles also, but some time later SOA sent a letter stating that this was due to some manufacturing defect (I've forgotten what), and we ultimately got a rebate toward the cost of replacement. dcb

2000 legacy gt limited 5mt in titanium pearl. i sold it over three years ago, but i can go take a pic of it in the parking lot since i sold it to my boss.

Mine was the 92 lsl svx that I had purchased last year.
Now I am addicted to SVX's and have two more. I do not believe I would have a subaru if they never made svx's.

My dad had a 1986 GL in an aquamarine color. Then he got the Legacy I have now (so, technically, that's my first Subaru).

my first subaru was a 92 svx ls~l with touring ebony pearl. with 115000km on it. i believe i was the third owner. car was mint with no rust. is the one that got t boned in my sig.

My first Subie was a 88 (I think) RX Turbo Coupe..AWD 5 speed....got me hooked, now at around 30 owned....
