Should i stay or should i go.....

My car has a little over 256,832 miles on the original motor.
Would it be cheeper to have it rebuilt or buy a new one???
My car is still overheating and i have checked everything. Am i still overlooking something??? I thought about the hoses but there a year old, the fans were replaced about a year ago and i just replaced the fuses. Could it be the relay's
So two questions any good answers???

I wouldn't consider rebuilding or replacing the engine until finding out why the car is overheating.

Do you know for a fact that the fans aren't working? Are you losing coolant? Any leaks? Oil in the coolant? Does the engine smoke badly or use oil? Knock or clunk? Water pump and thermostat been replaced?

Yeah i've looked over the car while it warmed up just to look for leaks. There was no oil in the coolant when i changed it. The fans do work. But now that you mentioned it to engine does smoke but my dumba$$ thought it was from the oil around the motor.
But with the miles that are on it i would think to replace or rebuild. Maby just rebuild the whole front end.

Couple of questions:

Are your fans coming on? Are you getting pressure in the resivoir? Is your exhaust white? Have you properly bled the cooling system for air pockets?

Smoke out the tailpipes probably means trouble; smoke in the engine bay probably means an oil, transmission fluid, or power steering leak.

All I'm trying to say is, if the engine seems healthy otherwise, don't go scrapping or tearing into it before you rule-out something cheap and simple such as the thermostat.

But still the car does have alot of miles. Im going to have to worked on one day.
Thats why im asking, the car leaks oil and power steering fluid but runs great. There's lots of power when i need it the check engine light never comes on except twice since i owned it but the time is coming and id rather know what my best option is now instead of waiting till its too late.

well this is a risky sugestion but i would keep the car... oil and P/S leaks shouldnt cause sudden unforseen problems... (for the most part) as long as its running good and you keep the fluid levels up you should be able to get away with driving it as is.... i mean hell im driving a 92 ford tempo right now that looks like the engine was dipped in oil.... and it works for me

I would replace the thermostat. I had overheating probs in my SVX, replaced the thermostat....and bam no overheating problem. They are cheap as hell and easy to instal. It would be worth at least buying one and putting it in to see if it works before you scrap or rebuild the motor.

Some of these suggestion might have already been made and I could be talking out my rear end here but .....

How about getting a compression test done before sinking $$$ into rebuilding it ? I know its a lot of miles, but you never know what kind of shape the engine is in until you check it.

Are you sure the fans are coming on (with AC off)? Drive the car until its fully warmed up, while its still idling, pop the hood and see if the fans come on, it may take a while, but you should eventually see it cycle on and off (i have seen it happen on mine)

Have you noticed if the car doesn't overheat if the AC is on ? (turning AC on forces at least one of the fans to run all the time if i remember right, meaning engine may not overheat.

One off the wall suggestion.... could the temp gauge be faulty ?

I think i found the problem. When my car overheated last night again i found that yes one of the fans was not working, BUT when i looked at fuse and touched it it went on but you could see an ark in the fuse which is probably why the fuse blew in the first place. What would be causing that and or would some contact cleaner might solve th issue????

Yes, there may be some corrosion that is causing that to happen. It need to make a good connection in order to work properly.

if that doesnt work i would just wire your own circuit to the fan and have it on a switch you turn on whenever you need it, but thats just me, idk how much attention you want to pay to the guages.

as far as advice on a motor for when you do need it i would say buy a whole different motor and just drop it in, you can get the jdm motors that have 30 day warantees for like 1200 shipped, or just reg motors for like 800 shipped, and for the prices of rings and gaskets, and machine work you might as well just get another motor, unless you have power plans for the future
