Should I trust him?

On Wednesday I was sitting in my apartment when I heard my car alarm go off; so I went outside to check it out and a guy in a SUV was rubbing down the side of my car and laughing because he bumped into my car when trying to park. I went down there and got all his information, license number, license plate, year/make/model, name, and I would of gotten his insurance information, but I am pretty sure he doesnt have any....He kept trying to avoid the subject everytime I asked for it, quoting "Oh, well my parents pay for my insurance so it is all the way in Cleveland (45 min drive) and I dont have any of the information here." He didnt even know the name of his insurance company!

He made the suggestion that we run up to a body shop and get an estimate of the damages that day, which was 400 bucks. He said he can only pay me in payments because he too is a poor college kid, so here is my question.....do I trust him? I made a insurance claim for information purposes in case he does run, but the claim does not have any information about him besides the car he drives and his name so I dont think it will do anything if he decides to run.

Also, the guy lives in the apartment below me and his lease does not end for a long time.

P.S. The damages are not bad enough that I cant drive.

Aaron

You call the police and file a report and then you sue his ass if he has no insurance. Don't take no for an answer and don't trust anybody. If anything ever breaks lose over it all, You know my number and where I live.

Immediately call the police, and get them to make a report. You will need this. Your insurance company will pay for the damage. The repair shop will charge enough to cover your deductible. It will not affect your insurance because you weren't even driving. Let the insurance deal with the guy for getting paid. The guy was laughing? That would do it for me. Just tell him your parents made you file the report -- if that's his game it can be yours too.

Exactly.

Aaron,
You should come over and let me take a look at it. Did you see mine after the accident?

In life, always try to do the right thing, always consider the other person's interests, but when you come across a real bonehead, ... well even Quai Chang Cane, alias David Carradine in Kung Fu playing a Buddhist monk still had to kick some butt!

Well I do not have full coverage on my car so it only covers me if I hit someone else. :/ I talked to the guy today and he said he will pay me roughly 50 or so bucks a week until I get enough money to pay for the repairs. Considering I live in the ghetto I think it might be a bad idea to send the insurance company after him considering i live a floor above him...... I dont know though...me scared

I saw your damages budfreak and they are ALOT worse. Mine is just a tiny dent and a scratch down the side...nothing big.

hmm..Keep contact with the guy. See if his parents, who "pay the insurance" would be willing to spot him your money. If he wants to make payments, its genrally a good idea to get (For a small amount like that) half of it down, so at worst your taking a 200$ loss

That, of course, being if you dont want to go through insurance compnies
