At how many Miles did you replace your Fuel Pump?
At how many miles did you replace your fuel pump? I still have low miles but I was thinking of changing it before it dies as my Volvo's just crapped out at 155 Miles.
Also I presume it is in the tank? Thanks

subaru fuel pumps rarely fail and in my experience the failure is progressive some times. Replace it around 150,000 to 200,000 miles. Don't worry until it fails, IMHO.

My SVX has 247K and, to my knowledge (unless it was replaced in the 109K prior to when I bought it - and there's no evidence that it has), the fuel pump has never been replaced.

I have not heard of more than one or two ever having to be replaced. There is a How-To Doc on how to do it though. Good luck.

Out of the 9 Subarus I've owned I've never replaced a fuel pump in a single one of 'em. What kills them over anything else though would be the decomp. of the rubber clogging it. I wouldn't replace it if I were you.

I haven't ever replaced a fuel pump on either SVX. Each one is well over 200,000 miles.

I had a fuel pump fail suddenly on my old '86 GL wagon as it approached 200,000 miles, so I've slated fuel pump replacement as SVX preventive maintenance somewhere in the neighborhood of 180,000.

Never
I have never replaced one on any of my cars or heard of anyone that did. And that is not the whole story---I would never replace one unless it failed. Given the location of the fuel pump and the required access on the interior right behind the rear seat, I think it is best NOT to disturb it unless absolutely necessary. What if you did not get it sealed properly?????

Wow. That is amazing! Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I'll hold back with my low Miles

Lee, its the best located fuel pump I've ever come across and I've owned EA-81s with their nice exterior mounted pumps! You have to lie on your back though to work on those. Its as easy as putting a lid on (literally) to get reseal. |

Maybe I shouldn't draw parallels between two vastly different Subaru products, but that's my experience, and I'm sticking with it. If the car in question is a daily driver, 'tis better to change pumps and hoses and belts and alternators and such before they leave you stranded. dcb |

I'd be more worried about the fuel and brake lines rusting out above the fuel tank. It's the one area you can't get at with rust protection. I'm sure they use a lot of salt on your roads. I had a Volvo 740. Seems all Volvos are known for fuel and water pump failures around 100k km.

Why not replace the car while your at it? Wear items yes but my guess is your GL pump failed because it was 3/4 clogged and overworking for 50k (in other words you neglected your maintainance of your car) before it failed. So long as the rubber is good, strainer is kept clean and you're electrical conacts kept free from corrosion a Subaru fuel pump should outlast the engine and body of a car. |

Can you read? I explained it already. Not ragging on you in the least but your logic is quite flawed unless you want to replace every part on the car. Honestly, with the SVX you're better of replacing the tranny as preventative maintaince rather than replacing the fuel pump. |
