my new sti 6disc...
hey there guys... i picked up a brand new sti 6disc from a guy stripping his car for rally... after a painful day of install, here it is! ohh the last trim piece isnt on yet, but you get the idea...
how many of you have the 05-06 stereo?? besides me of course heres it is in the light  and dark!!

well, it wouldnt have been very difficult, except for the fact that i dont have a lot of tools, and things down there are sharp...
-i ended up cutting the whole back of the cage off... -then i cut out a support bar bar/plate type thing cause it was blocking it from fitting flush -then i had to melt the inside part of the door to facilitate the bigger knobs, -and the black trim had to be cut to get back in there with the bigger knobs.. i got a heck of a deal ($75 shipped) from nasioc, most of em go for 'bout 100 though, and overall i think i'm very happy with the install... (oh, and i had to go back twice to get a stupid antenna extension cable.. the first one broke?!(30miles each way))

thats what i had planned... (to be honest, the square trim piece hasnt been cut yet, but i have it all ready to be...) and i couldnt for anything get both in at the same time... (back of the door piece and trim piece) i could get either one of them in by themselves no problem, i was workin in the dark, i'll try again today...
oh!, and anybody doing this, should disconnect their battery before trying it... or else you'll blow a fuse...

just take your time the trick is to swing the door up to get the back piece in. You just need to be patient and play with it for a bit. Remember how you took it out in the first place

IIRC, the only modification I made when installing mine was to remove the back of the stereo cage. All other pieces fit fine with no modification. I ground down the piece that fits to the back of the door to accept the knobs, but later determined that wasn't necessary.

maybe yours was different? i definately needed to take out a a piece from inside the dash, and the inside of the door needed to be modified(melted in my case), the trim peice however, does not... is yours an 06 sti head unit?
edit... just checked your locker... looks the same... (weird)

The plugs in the back of my 6disc didnt match up at all with the connectors that went into my svx unit. Did you guys rewire the connectors?

svxdc sells harnesses that you can use to mate the new stereo with the SVX connector.

See SVXdc for wiring harness adapters. Requires 2 to make this work without butchering the stock wiring.
Mine, while not an Sti 05-06 model was as new and did require modification of the rear of the door to fit over the knobs. A very nice upgrade, although I think the diversity tuning of the OE may have actually been superior. Glenn
