Hey, when you get that 951 we'll pick a middle point and meet up - whether it's for beer & wings or drag racing!

I'll let you run the 951 down the 1/4, you have alot more experience doing it. I hope I can work out the logistics of getting her.

Thanks for the offer - but I'd be afraid of breaking something in an 18 year old car. I was looking on dragtimes.com at the times run by 944 turbos (951) and the comments in this listing scared me:

http://www.dragtimes.com/Porsche-944-Timeslip-7089.html

Even when I looked at another timeslip of a guy with a 108mph trap speed, he also had a very slow 60ft and appeared to "baby it" off the line:

They aren't very robust for the abuse of 5000 rpm drops, but where the car shines is on a nice 2 lane twisty. The 951 isn't the highway cruiser the 928 is, simply for the stout 32 valve V-8, but I've heard they do gobble the miles quite pleasently.

Looking good Dan. Is that a cold-air cut-out he's made? Looks pretty cool.

Edit: I looked at the engine bay shot again and yes, I guess that slit is designed to feed cold air to the cone filter. He's seems to have two other horizontal ones which I imagine feed cold air to the radiator and/or intercooler. Guess these are the "Vented stock nose panel" mod he was talking about. Very snazzy!

The two horizontal slits go to the FMIC, the vertical goes right across the MAF. I looked up the weight on another site. Porsche lists the weight as 2975lbs, wet; fuel and spare. With my 210 pounds on board (I'm 6' 1 1/2) she is close to the 3200 in fighting trim.

That's pretty darn svelte... My car weighs in at 3,192lbs wet. At the strip w/o spare and only a 1/4 tank of gas she's probably right around 3,100lbs (~3270lbs with me in it). On the the street with my spare and a full tank of petrol, she'll be closer to 3,360lbs with me in it.

So from a dead stop, you'd take me. If we did a rolling start at 20mph, I'd do alot better.

at equal weight and power (or even less power), an AWD launch owns, assuming you don't overdo it and break something.

From a 20mph roll, you'd probably have me by a 1-2 car lengths if we raced up to 100mph. But that's when my car is stock...

I understand the dead stop. You have AWD and can luanch it harder. But side by side at 20mph, I'm lighter, more power, and less power loss due to the drive line drag you have with the AWD. Yes your car is 230hp stock at the crank vs this one was 217, but it's 18 years older and pushing 300 now. I would think this would be the one place I could give you a true run for the money. You still get a ride and drive if I get her. The 1984 928 S is in the garage right now. She sure looks pretty sitting there.
