Power Mode all the time
I was driving my car yesterday and the power light came on. I wasnt giving it gas in fact I just let off. The light stayed on all the way home. When I drive the car now it is fine for about 5 min. Then the power light comes on and tranny shifts like I am flooring the pedal. It shifts into all 4 gears but doesnt want to shift until about 6500 rpms. Does anyone know whats going on? I just put the for sale signs in the window and I think the car is mad at me. Is there some sensor that tells the tranny when to go into power mode? Or maybe the TCU is bad?? Please help me I can no longer own this car but I cant sell it with problems. Also the awd wasnt working at all in december and now when I take off while turning it feels like it is stuck in 4WD 50/50 I can feel it binding.

isn't it when the "power" light comes on all the time means that the tranny is .....dying or something like that?>.i've read that somewhere before...not sure if that was here or in the ...owners manual...tha'ts where..
i dont know what you can do to fix it....maybe the tranny is dead already...???? might want to bring that issue into a subaru dealer (providing that they know something about the car)...

Ok darkness. No, it doesn't mean that the tranny is going out or is already out. It blinks and gives you codes, but I am not sure what it means when it is on all of the time.
I would try to get a code from the power light and see if it gives you any information. Good luck.

I know exactly what it is and your binding awd system confirms it - your TPS (throttle positioning sensor) needs to be re-set.
With the engine running, it should read +0.5V on a digital voltmeter. -Chike

This section in the How-To docs will give you all the info you'll need to test and adjust the TPS:

This does bring up an interesting thought...what would it mean, trans-wise, if the transmission was always in "Power" mode???

I would also have to say that there's something wrong with the TPS. It's probably dirty or broken.

I don't know if it was on all of the time, that it would be in the power mode all of the time. Or, if just the light is on and not really in power mode. If it was, I would think that it would just shift differently.

It was shifting differently when I would barely give it gas the rpms would go up to about 5,000 before it would shift. Today the check engine light came on so I will have to check all the codes and then I will post the results. I was thinking it might have something to do with the TPS but I will have to check that out also. Thanks for all the quick replies.
Also I tried flooring it just once and the engine seemed like it was in limp mode or like it was gettting flooded it was just off on off on but no real power. When I let off the power light went off and the check engine light also went off. I drove it for another mile and it drove fine. Then I tried putting it into power mode and when I floored it the car barely went any faster it was like I didnt give it but only half throttle. And when I give it half throttle it goes just fine faster then when I give it full throttle.

Well I am in the middle of moving so I will check the codes as soon as possible but I think you guys are right about the TPS.

Power light comes on when the car is floored. So if Your TPS is off, your car thinks that you are flooring it. This has also been the cause of many trans problems with people losing AWD. So, I say check the codes. Then check the voltage on the TPS. Correct the voltage by following the How-To. If this doesn't fix it, replace the TPS and try again.

Its your tps sensor because when I was adjusting mine it was adjusted so far one time the power light was on as soon as the ar was started and stayed on.My tps is adjusted at .55 volts so the lightest pedal will put me in power mode.

Well I checked the codes last night and I got 32 and 37 so It says both oxygen sensors went bad at the same time. If it is the TPS why doesnt the error code show 31 for TPS and can the TPS make the engine consume to much fuel and mess with the o2 sensors causing an error code for both?
Well I will check my TPS later when I get the chance.
