Check it out

Have you guys seen the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon GT? I think this car is great and has a LOT of potential. I know it's not as unique as the SVX, but I think it's better in many ways, i.e. awesome transmission, looks, features(Leather), aftermarket support, and best of all-price. Approx. $20,000. Not too bad for a car that has 181hp, 3,000lb curb weight, MacPherson struts and anti-roll bars front and back, 17" wheels and 0-60 in 7.6 seconds. I actually didn't care for it at first, but when I saw it in person, it looked totally different. I'm actually thinking about selling my SVX and trying to get one of these. It would be nice to have a warranty as well. I will probably sell the SVX for around $5500. I'm not sure yet, but I just wanted to let everyone know about my great find. I think this car will do well. Sports Compact Car wrote a great article on it in the April 2002 issue. If you have a chance, check it out.

Tack $4000 on it, add 40HP and the same after-market support, if not better... and get a WRX... 0-60 in 5.1 I think?

That's true (5.1 seconds to be exact), but I just think the Tiburon looks better and can look MUCH better. I know it's all a matter of opinion, it just really tickles my fancy.

I was looking into the tiburons when they 1st came out. I liked them! My only problem w/ them was that there were too many of them around town, and I didn't have the $ for aftermarket stuff at the time. Have they gotten rid of that 4 and put a 6 in yet?

Wife and I are looking to replace our '91 Camry Wagon. We had been looking at a Outback LLB, and still like it a lot, but they're like, you know, passe. Yesterday we drove the Toyota Matrix and besides costing about $10K less, we think it's a better fit for us. I've driven the Celica with the 180hp. paddle-shift auto, and it was a hoot. I just wish you could get that engine in the 4WD. (The 130 hp is detuned to 123 in the 4WD - go figger. And the paddle-shifter isn't available in the Matrix.)

Now. I realize that the Matrix is not going to be a crowd pleaser. It's (very) small and the H.O. engine will probably be a chore to drive. Plus, it's styling reminds me of photos of 'future-cars' of the fifties. Still, I like it. Not only that, I think the Tiburon looks tres-sillie . But then, I never claimed to have any class.

I saw the new Tiburon at the NAIAS. I've never been a fan of the car, but this new generation is pretty cool.

As for comparing the Tiburon with the SVX, I don't think that's really fair to either car.

Yes, but that's my own subjective view. I was trying to be diplomatic.

I'd have to agree with your subjective view, Nick. Also, I think if I put only half of what it cost for a new Tiburon in my SVX, I'd have a lot better car for the money. That's my subjective view.

You and my wife. She's abandoned her Beetle dreams and now she wants an Outback.
