Viper on fire pics

Hi all,
I was helping my church move refugees into new apartments here in Dallas this weekend when as we were pulling up to the apartment complex I caught a glimpse of what looked like an 06 Viper that had caught on fire. The first couple pics are from when i first saw it. Looked like it had just happened and the guy was out of the car on his cell phone. The rest of the pics are as i went back to get another load the fire dept was there hosing it down. I didn't get any shots of the coolest part (ok, well i'm sure the guy that owned it would disagree that it was cool) but as we went through the corner passing him the small flames that were just coming from the hood erupted into BIG flames. Pretty much caught the whole car on fire, including the beautiful leather interior oh well, don't buy american i always say (where cars are concerned anyway).

The pics are located in my locker, and they are about 1.5 megs a piece so if you're on a modem...prepare for a wait.

Glad you were quick with the camera. I won't be surprised if pics of this don't start popping up all over the internet.

P.S. Btw, this would go better in the 'Not Exactly SVX' forum...

Halistan,

I downloaded three of the pics, re-sized and then put them in my locker under 'Random Stuff' giving you proper credit. Here they are for people with a slow connection speed:

P.S. Btw Halistan, glad you were able to help the Katrina refugees get settled in Dallas!

Of course I can't say for sure what started this fire, but I do know that the side pipes are surrounded by a plastic trim that is prone to catching fire.

Good call. Yup, you're a smart one, you are.

FYI: Fire doesn't know the difference between American, Japanese, European or Martian vehicles.

True but....

I hear a lot less instances of mechanical failure on imported models than i do on domestic models and i certainly hear fewer of them blowing up like that Viper did.
Just my observation, but you're right, fire doesn't care what country the car is from.

What about those CV joints that constantly go out on Hondas, and the wheel bearings and trannies that go out constantly on SVXs, and the Getrag 6-speeds on the 3000GT VR-4s, and the ECS on the 3000GT SLs, and the electrical wiring on the older Bimmers and Veedubs, and the crank walk on the older Eclipses, and the...

Face it guys, every car has its little quirks. Of all the boards to hear this comment, the last one I expected to hear it on was an SVX forum, where we keep our cars despite knowing about all the potential problems, mechanical and cosmetic, that can occur on it. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...

Not saying that American cars don't have their share of problems, but damn. And if you want to talk fit and finish, I remember '92 Preludes that had badly faded side mirror paint after 5 or 6 years. Not to mention that European cars often make the Japanese interiors look like cheap plastic. Not my opinion, but other people seem to think so.

Damn, you're quick!

With the Vipers, you can't even touch the side runners after extended or hard driving.. The side exhaust runs right under them, and they will burn you bad. There's even warning sign on the runners stating this.
