People of Michigan...

...I have two words for you: ROAD MAINTENANCE! Good grief! Parking equipment on the side of the road for several years doesn't count unless you actually put it to some productive use. Then again maybe you are, maybe you're using the highway shoulders for an equipment parking lot.

I'm in Detroit this week for more training (gee, maybe I should have done this thirty years ago ) and have found some of the worst roads I've ever seen. Maybe the ultimate plan is to sell more cars by way of thoroughfare attrition. My hat's off to those that can keep a car on the road more than five years.

That and I'm kinda wondering how safe my SVX is here. I've only seen about four other non-Fords around... If it doesn't have a blue oval on it, it's heading away from town.

It is kind of cool around here though, I'm in a national training center around the corner from Roush, down the road from new model engineering and testing, the Ford proving grounds, Ford World HQ, The Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Rouge River plant, Ford's estate (called Fairlane, of course), yadda, yadda. It's enough to make Shadow sick.

i lived there for 6 months - the roads are far worse than Pgh, if that's possible.

I-75 - everyone does 100mph, and the potholes can swallow you whole....

You think Detroit roads are bad, try coming to Chicago. Every single insterstate and highway in he greater Chicago area is under construction.

I agree though, 75 is awful.

Yeah umm.....try new york city .......ask the New York members on this site and how the potholes look like graves dug for people. You literally have to come to a complete stop and slowly roll through each of them. Your better off hoping the curb to avoid em

Why make nicer roads if all you see driving on them are fords? Seems like an answer to a question no one asked?

Uhhh... that's in this part of town. They do make a certain amount of GMs here also. (GM = God's Mistake)

I lived in Ann Arbor for a few years, and I totally agree with you, Beav. The roads in that whole state are ridiculous. All winter long you see news stories on TV about giant pot holes opening up and wrecking dozens of cars, or freeway overpasses crumbling on top of cars, etc.

The highway department's response is always the same: 'well, you'll have that with this weather.'

Riiiiiiiight.

Michigan's idea of fixing a hole in concrete is filling it with loose asphalt. That way, by the next day, all the traffic has pushed the asphalt to the far side of the hole, making a hole and a bump. Nice.

Michigan drivers don't make the situation any better. I have never seen a more inconsiderate, brain-dead and just plain mean group of drivers anywhere. If you've ever lived in the state, you can even recognize groups of cars from Michigan on the freeway in other states. No kidding.

umm I'll agree with the above.. and chicago has NOTHING on michigans lack of road repair.. sure, every road in chicago is always under construction... however, you actually get nicer roads that way... in michigan they pretend, while still letting the roads disintegrate..

there was a pothole by my school last year that i personally know of 3 people who effed up there cars on. its rediculous.

It gets better (?)

Geez.... $13 for a 12 pack of Bud and $5.30 for a pack of smokes. And it's like pulling teeth to find a place to buy a 12 pack. In Looahvul it's $8 for 12 and $10.50 for 18. I'm almost afraid to stop at White Castle.

I wonder how many cartons of cigs I can get into a U-Haul. Hmmm...$2/pack x 10 per carton = $20 per carton profit. A carton is what, 3.5" x 14" x 2" and a truck is.....

I haven't looked for one yet. I have found a place nearby that's close, with a more local flavor. It just happens to be the close to the training center, so we go there for lunch. Yeah... yeah, that's it...that's the reason...close, yeah... close for lunch...

Alaskan roads are far worse than anything you find in Michigan. Last time I was there (2001) I actually marveled at the smoothness and beauty compared to the grap we have up here.

The asphalt business is actually monopolized by one company that makes every last road in the state and since they have no competition they do very poor quality work, and fix it, and it fails, and they get called in to fix it, year after year...
