I'de buy that for a dollar
Check this auto thats currently on the Ebay auction block. It appears to be in good condition, has very little mileage and if this is indeed a true buy, the "Buy it now" price is pretty reasonable considering is one of the most freaking rare cars of the 90s if not of at least several decades. Which brings me to one other thing, I never knew they made them back in 1973.
Btw, did you know the engine used in that is the same as the one used in this Group B rally car, but twin turbocharged? Here is another source about that rally car and more. Last edited by Weebitob; 06-20-2005 at 02:29 AM. |

I would also like to add that I never knew they were ever sold in the US to begin with.

It looks pretty, but it was never a big success. People were expecting a V-12 when they placed orders and Jaguar put a turbo V-6 in it. The wheels are ugly and the jag emblem is missing from the steering wheel. I'd rather have a Carrera GT. It does get bonus points for the rareness. As for sale in the US, it was never sold here. There was a loop hole show exemption put in a couple of years ago and the first car to get the approval was a british racing green XJ-220 that resides in Muncie, IN. Autoweek did a profile on the car and the exemption. Last I heard there were people trying to get the Porsche 959 exempted as well.

One of the car mags did the 50 best cars of all time. I can't believe they put the F40 higher then the 959. The 911 was #2 so that's ok. They did put too many french cars in the top 10. They all sucked. Name a french car on the same level as a Corvette, 911, Modena, Vanquish, etc...

What!? Nice performing French automobiles, how can this be? here are some classic french autos
There is the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 as well, here are the specifaction for the homogenized consumer model. Btw, how did the Jaguar XJ220 rank, if it made it on or even perhaps the SVX? I am pretty much kidding about the SVX one, it probably didn't make it on. However, I can be wrong. Last edited by Weebitob; 06-21-2005 at 07:24 PM. |

I kinda feel the same way about Mercedes putting a s/c 5.4 V8 into the ultra exotic SLR McLaren - when they have a twin-turbo V-12! -Chike

But you have to look at the numbers 0-60 in 3.8 seconds 1/4 11.7 seconds, which is btw pretty much equal with the Ferrari F40 at least in straightline, yet it had a top speed of roughly 213mph. Which actually made it one of the fastest supercars until the Mcarlen F1 came along. And as for the Mercedes SLR, 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of just over 200mph is not to shabby for a FR auto. The point I am trying to make is that there is also a power to weight. If that means sacrificing some hp for a smaller engine that is not only lighter in its own sense but evens out the weight distribution. This is why the Mclaren chose such a small and lightweight V12 that is a 4.4l plus most of the parts are made out of an aluminum alloy.
Here is a link to a Jaguar XJ220 specs page. I also forgot to mention that the engine in the XJ220 is bored .5l more. Last edited by Weebitob; 06-21-2005 at 09:39 PM. |
