Legacy 4EAT tranny in SVX?

If memory serves me right, several people haev had 3:90 and 4:11 gear ration Legacy Automatic transmissions in their SVX (by accident or purpose). I am trying to gain information on differences.

Plugs, flex plate, ect...
I do know that the SVX tranny has more clutches in it. I need to know from other memebers that have doe this if the plugs or anything else are different.

Thanks

Not all Legacy trannys have less clutch packs. Turbos have the same amount of clutch packs.

Chris,
Get a 96-97 Legacy Outback tranny, with 4.44 gears, REALLY increase your take off times...

I concur Huck! (actually one from a '96-'98 Legacy Outback would work)

I was able to get 2.17s 60ft times on my 4.11 gears with a first gear ratio of 2.785. Besides the 4.44 gears in the '96-'98 Legacy Outback tranny, 1st gear has an even shorter ratio of 3.027. I would suspect that you'll see 60ft times in the 2.0s range...

I know of a certain s/c member who frequently does 4 wheel burn-outs with his SVX and has had no tranny issues whatsoever. The Legacy Outback 4.44 4EATs seem to be pretty tough - and I'll have one in my car within a week!

Im just looking for a temporary economical solution to put an SVX on the road until $4500 can be saved for race tranny to be built. Also alows me to pull the bad tranny thats to be built and still have the car on the road.

To be more specific,
I have located a 93 Legacy tranny and rear diff for $750 and no core charge from a salvage yard (4:11 ratio). I plan to put this in my current SVX as a race one, take my good one from it and put in in my new daily driver that has a blow tranny. Take the blow tranny and store it until the cash is avalible to have it built bulletproof and race prepped.

Correct. The '96-'98 Legacy Outback trannies will be a direct plug-n-play.

Unless that is a manual, you are being lied to.

I've had a early Legacy auto, that was 4.11's, so why would you say he's being lied to?

The early Turbo Legacys had 3.90's as did some of the FWD's, but all the regular 90-94 Legacy's I've messed with have had 4.11's

That's what I thought until I pulled a rear diff off of a 92?? to match up to our 4.11 trans. Once I got the layer of gunk off, I discovered it was a 3.9

You must've got one from a 90 or 91 then Huck

90-94 NA manual: 4.111
90-91 NA auto: 4.111
92-94 NA auto: 3.900
91-94 Turbo auto or manual: 3.900

This is all for AWD trans

All 90-94 FWD are 3.700

So either the trans he's looking at is from a 90 or 91, or the final drive is 3.900. Either way it's not what the salvage yard is saying.
