3.3 in a 95-98 Legacy wagon

Would it be that hard to put a 3.3 engine into a 95-98 legacy wagon. I just love to sit around and come up with ideas for stuff. I would want to start out with a wagon that was already AWD and 5 speed.

Thanks, Joe

I don't think it would be terribly difficult; I know I've seen it done. I would imagine there would be some custom fabrication required, though.

My biggest thought is if the motor is too wide. It seems to be really wide compared to a 2.2 or 2.5. If anyone had already done this mod let me know.

Thanks, Joe

It'll fit....the wiring will be the biggest issue to work out.

One of the guys on NASIOC, Anders Green, put an Outback 3.0 motor in a 1995 Impreza and it is now a rally car... I asked him why he didn't use an SVX motor instead. He said that he had to actually beat the sides of the frame(?) out so he could make the thing fit as it was... He didn't think that an SVX motor would fit without modification of where the motor sat and slightly widening the engine bay... ....

Here's my input.... http://linaracing.com/impreza-h6-conversion-faq.cfm

I remember reading somewhere that this was done. It was a tight squeeze, but it fit. As I recall the biggest issue was the length of the 3.3 and interference with the radiator.

Yes, the 3.0 is just inches away from the radiator... Well, I mean it is REALLY close... I wouldn't want something as close to the radiator as he placed that engine... That is one of the main reasons why I don't think that the 3.3 swap would be possible without moving the engine mounting points... And beating out the the sides of the engine bay to accomidate a MUCH wider engine... If anyone wants to see the 3.0 Impreza, just go to the Tenessee Trails Rally this weekend in Cherokee country (tennessee) This weekend... (18th-20th)... Anders should be there... Just go to http://www.cherokeetrailsrally.com/ or http://www.nasarallysport.com/ for more info on the rallys...
