I watched a true "caught on video" type program about a girl who's car throttle got stuck, for an hour, on the interstate, she "luckily" had her cell phone with her.
She called the state police, and for an hour she weaved in and out of traffic in her 80s VW jetta.
They both led, and followed with sirens blaring, and lights flashing , for an hour.
They coached her, and protected her, for an hour.
When she finally crashed, on video, she was truely lucky to be alive.

Her jetta was a stick shift!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You know, WITH A CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!

She, still had no clue, months later, when they interviewed her.

She was still blaming VW.

The headlines in todays news

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/eur...ey/4000843.stm

I met the wingeing woman recently in a narrow lane. She was driving a Perodua Nippa,

I was driving a 2 tonne van towing a 3 tonne trailer (loaded.) She had a passing place about 20 metres behind her, I had a passing space 100 metres behind me. Guess who ended up having to reverse?

After the crash, the State Police investigated the car and could find no cause for the throttle to stick.
She said the key did not work, but they could find nothing wrong with that either.

Mor on this later

you have to understand that the time that your brain sees the incoming stimuli processes it and sends the info to your limbs almost a second passes this is a lot of time and thats when your calm. it can double and tripple in a panic situation.

Doesn't it take a while ~10 sec at least to go from 30-90 in 3rd? Sounds like this guy is a toolbag.

I read that on Nasioc yesterday, and gotta say that the kid was an @$$hat who's parents were dumb enough to co-sign a loan for a car that their son wasn't ready for. Kid should have been driving a Yugo. After reading the other two threads about his previous accident, I think all he should be driving is a tricycle!

Even considering multiple impacts I would really doubt the 90mph number, probably 30-50 based on damage...

Who?

Playing with children, eh?

I think the 12mph crash guy is lieing. An AWD vehicle does not slip at 12 mph in a puddle. Even if it deifies physics and does slip, it doesn't go very far.

The throttle in my XT6 used to get stuck, because it would become iced over on very cold mornings. What would I do? Pop it in neutral, kill the engine. At that point I could just pull the thottle off, so it was different, but either case there is no cause for alarm if you just handle the situation.
You're on a street. Why turn into someones yard? Why not a tree? A friggen lamp post?

I never saw that image. If that's the real street, and it looks like it is, he could have made a right turn (as opposed to going in a straight line) and had plenty of room to stop. That 4-way has no stop sign on his side.
