Knowing that this thread may eventually get shut down....
And knowing that I really don't like to contribute to things like this...
Still I have to say that, sitting here, watching the debate.....
I am apalled, absolutely apalled.......
(and I choose not to elaborate further)

What was Bush doing back then?

"According to a new book, three independent sources close to the Bush family report that Governor Bush was arrested in 1972 for cocaine possession, and taken to Harris County Jail, but avoided jail or formal charges through an informal diversion plan involving community service with Project P.U.L.L., an inner city Houston program for troubled youths at the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Houston's dirt-poor Third Ward. (In another new book, reporter Bill Minutaglio, writes that the year of community service was arranged by the Governor's father, ex-president Bush, after he caught Bush Jr. driving drunk.) "

I for one lived though it-like most of your parents apparently.

I remember how the whole era affected me even though I missed the draft by about 16 months, thanks to Ford(what I was driving at the time also-67 Gt fastback).

As to how it pays forward? Jsut goes to showing political coersion and how it's pervaded ALL candidates to pursue votes.

And?!...

Have you ever talked yourself out of a speeding ticket? Have you ever had a cop or government-worker relative help get you out of a sticky situation with the law? Does this make you less of a person? Does this affect in any way your ability to be trusted?

Ooookkkk.. I was alive back then (barely), but what I meant was how does something (somewhat irrelevant) have to do with now.... 30 years later.
I get so sick of the retroactive witch hunt....... particularly when it truly doesn't apply to contemporary issues.
(the "drug use" ploy always makes me especially sick)

but what Jeff brought up was what kerry did in 71 about a relative political issue. Bit different. Though not a huge deal because kerry does so many 180's now, we don't have to dig into his past to know that he's done it before.

Or more immediate, who WOULDN"T pull strings if they could-aside from Martha Stewart?

And to accuse Bush of signed agreements today that Kerry was even worse about forcing under duress is irrelevant?

What if he murdered someone 30 yrs ago(also something he's been accused of in Nam)? Is that irrelevant today? I guess if Mayor Berry can be reelected a 3rd time after his prison sentence, why not?? And Ted Kennedy is still in office too, I see.
What criteria do you use to choose?

with Bush, even though i don't agree with 100% of what he does, at least you know where he stands. he is going after the terrorists before they can get us.

Kerry's agenda changes depending on who his audience is, or what the phase of the moon is.
