anyone have this hd unit?

click me

I was just curious before I purchased if anyone had it. Any kind of clearance issues I would need to be worried about? Worry mostly about the part that flips down hitting something.

I looked at one of those too. Based on the pictures I figure it might hit the part of the Radio cover that is slightly folded on the left side.

I am running a double din setup with no mods, I even retained the black dressing frame.

Head unit

I don't have that particular unit but I do have an Alpine Double-Din Unit which I had installed professionally about 5 years ago. I am assuming that all units deemed "double-din" are identical in height so you should be ok.

Anyway, fitting within the SVX stereo enclosure was not a problem (although the install was... but that's another story), but as you pointed out, the door which flips closed over the stereo area did have some clearance problems. Luckily for my particular unit there was an easy solution in that the black plastic cover on the top inside portion of the flip-down door (since its on the inside it is only visible when the door is open -- probably 4 - 6" long, the width of the door -- and made of black rounded plastic) and was the only piece of the door causing the clearance problem. We simply snapped that piece out and the problem was solved.

Hope that helps... its difficult to try and get this into words so let me know if I am not making any sense to you.

i am either going to buy this or do a media pc in the car . i have figured out which yet. this would probably the less hassle cheaper and maintaine some resale value.

what do you all think media pc or this unit?

Someone did a media pc set up here not to long age. He had a few little problem with it, like the monitor being about 1/4" to tall, having to disassemble the monitor and move button I think. I not sure on that.
It looked really cool when it was done.

be careful

I have a Kenwood DD deck, but it isn't the initial one I wanted.
First thing to check is if you have enough depth for that unit. The first deck I wanted wouldn't fit depth wise. Crutchfield would be able to answer that.
Also, you need to check how far out the face slides, crutchfield might be able to tell you that as well.
Then measure the distance from the lip of the cover to the face of your existing stereo, straight back in and see if you have enough clearence. It's not exact, but it will be close.
Also, you will probably have to remove the black molding that goes on the top, back of the radio cover, just like in the picture the one guy posted. Sorry, I don't remember your handle off hand.

Good luck.
