Dash/windshield popping noise repair

I've been meaning to do this for a while, I think tomorrow is the day. Does anyone know where a good how-to document is for fixing that crackling/popping noise that happens during winter with the heat on? From what I remember it involves coating some plastic clips in silicon.

If anyone knows a good how-to site or something of that nature, lemme know. Also if anyone is bored tomorrow there's a car show thingy at Flatirons. The fastest street legal WRX will be present (easy street) as well as the obligitory slew of riced out hondas necessary for any car show to be truely complete. Should be some nice subies too.

I'll be there trying to take appart my dash.

This is a common occurance w/ a majority of SVX'es. I remember reading a service bulliten about this some where. It would require to remove the whole dashboard (PITA!). Someone else might be able to give more insight as to where the fix was written?

attached is the TSB, but you still need the FSM to remove the dash.

taking off the dash is a pain in the ASS! That TSB says to use felt but i've also heard of using silicone, anyone have any input on which one would be better?
(my dash is still off)

One look at that photograph seals the deal for me; I'll live with the noise.

Oh this is a little late at this time. I am sory I will tell you anyway.
I have used spray silicone lube to quite down the dash board. I just spray it into the crack between the windshield and dash and into other cracks around the. It takes awhile to work in but the noise is all gone now.

Seeing that you're that far already you may as well keep going and install a 5 spd

Good luck with the dash reinstall.

yeah, i'm not gonna pretend like it was worth this amount of time. I'm just hoping its not worse when i put it back together. The potential for irony is huge.

...but yeah, i'd like to keep on taking it appart and make everything perfect, clean the whole carpet, dynomat some stuff, 5-spd., new tweeters...turns out i'm broke though.

Such is the life of most SVX owners. Seems there's more SVX owners than SVX drivers.

I have the popping but never thought it warranted dash removal (I am lazy too). Anyway, was this a lot of silicon lube, or just a light, even spray all along the edge. How long has the treatment worked?
