Have any proof? I'm not sure if it's real or fake, so I'm not moving one way or the other until I see proof.

Lacking any other information, just my (limited) expertise in CG. The animation is fine and believable, but the shaders aren't.

At work I have a video of a police robot. It's very good - much more 'real' than this guy's transformer. It even has fantastic production value and looks like a real commercial.

But it's still fake.

I also find it unlikely that somebody could make these kinds of advances on their own. Granted, there are always Edisons and Wright brothers, but the amount of work involved in a project like this is immense. His notes, while cool, don't provide too much real detail. They're really just brainstorming.

Look at just one aspect of the design - the 'sight' for the robot. One of his videos shows the robot stopping a car, which would mean that the robot would have to identify the car, determine its speed, and (having been told what to do) stop it gently.

That's considerably more difficult than simply indentifying an obstacle and deciding how to avoid it - a task none of the DARPA Grand Challenge teams could accomplish for this year's event two weeks ago.

Please note that I have the utmost respect for the teams competing in the Grand Challenge, and I look forward to next year's competition. I may even go see it.

Proof of fake

Based on common sense, I think I can prove it's fake.

1. Watch the car stop video.
2. Notice how both windows are an equal distance from the robot and the robots shadow comes towards you and to the left(most likely it should have two shadows or none at all)
3. Notice that the SUV and the cones have a shadow that goes away from you (their shadow should be in the same direction as the robots)
4. Notice that the robot does not have any reflection in the windows of the SUV

P.S. Rob, you contradicted yourself three times
"It looks real to me."
"I could be wrong, but.... this is one **** of a fake, if it is fake."
"I'm not sure if it's real or fake, so I'm not moving one way or the other until I see proof."

Man, shadows are usually the very first thing I look for...I'm embarrassed I missed that.
