Ugliest Car

I'd thought I'd throw this out for discussion for the new year. What is everyones pick for the ugliest car ever made. I'll start by saying the Citroen that was wider in front then back. Not sure of the name. i just saw a white one outside Easton, PA. It's the orange car from National Lampoon's European Vacation that gets stuck in Germany and Chevy Chase escapes out the cloth roof. The 2CV (?) is pretty ugly also.

The current Monte Carlo.

I suppose that's harsh, and I can certainly think of uglier cars throughout history. But few other cars are so ugly and gimmicky that they literally make me angry when I see them.

Citroen 2CV or Pontiac Aztec?
I'd have to pick the Citroen with the Aztec as a close second.

Especially when it has the chick from the James Bond movie driving it. (They had a 007 marathon on "Spike TV" this past weekend). The horror of it was that they destroyed a Lotus Espirit Turbo prior to their escape in the 2CV.

Ditto.

Everytime I see someone driving one I want to go up to them and ask if they bought the car or recieved it as a gift... because I cannot comprehend why anybody would EVER like those overweight, oversized under powered POSs.

Underpowered? I wouldn't know. I just know that the thing's ugly and its creases don't match up.

You're probably referring to the DS-21. Strange looking beast, but very innovative with an air suspension. Plus it's French, so of course it was wider in front - (think bustier).

My favorite, "what were they drinking"? cars. The '63-64' Dodge/Plymouth (Trying to be '40s retro when it wasn't in vogue).

And the '58 Buick (Somewhere hidden beneath the chrome there's actually a paint job).

Ron (wider in middle).

With all due respect, I think the Baja is right up there when the ugly prize gets awarded...tries to be a car and truck at the same time and winds up looking confused being neither.

The Citroen models ID-19 & DS-21 were essentially the same looking cars. When I was in high school my buddy Ralph was dating a girl, Carol, whose father had a DS-21. This man was attached to the French mission at the UN so it was an official car. Ralph and I used to double date alot using this car. I will say that it had the best back seat of any car that I've ever been in.

Mitch,

The term 'European charm', does not evoke daydreams of the 2CV for me. Rather, it evokes daydreams of Sophia Loren and Bridgette Bardot.

While I agree with some cars mentioned here (Aztek, the ultimate insult to Pontiac enthusiasts), and strongly disagree with others (Monte, WRX, Baja), I can think of a few that have had quite a bit more abuse from the ugly stick than anything mentioned so far. Except the 2CV. Now these here are just of the top of my head, if I went through all my back issues of MT and C&D, I'm sure I could find more.

#1. Qvale Mangusta. Just plain ugly. Looks like a Viper RT/10 and a T-Bird had a baby, then threw it off a cliff...after they $#!t on it. To make things worse (or better, depending on how you look at it) it rides on a Mustang drivetrain and chasis, so it's ugly and slow... and expensive. Even the gimmick hardtop is stupid.

#2. Like I said, the 2CV. Screw "European Charm", I've seen my cat vomit stuff on the floor that looks more attractive than this. Didn't they have a pickup version too that was even uglier?

#3. Anything Pinto-esque. This includes '70's Mustangs, Chevettes, Yugos, Gremlins, and LeCars. Oh, and I forget the name, but that crappy Russian thing with a steering square instead of a steering wheel, and a body made basically of compressed cardboard.
