Rotor replacement "how to" ?

I want to upgrade my brake setup, replace rotors (discs) all 4. And at same time the brake lines and pads.

Is there a "how to" for the rotor replacement ?

Thanks.

Re: Rotor replacement "how to" ?

Brakes are actually a lot easier than most people think.

1. car on jack stands
2. wheels off
3a. bolt out of calipers
3b. rotate calipers up
3c. slide calipers off and hang from car with bungee
4. pads off
5. bolts out of pad carrier and carrier off
6. (if it has them) remove rotor retaining screws
7. remove rotors, if stuck, tap lightly with hammer.
8. clean area with brake cleaner and wire brush, throw some paint on there to prevent rusting.

re-assembly is reversed.

Re: Rotor replacement "how to" ?

Just a note--the rear rotors have 2 bolt holes in them that you can used to screw in bolts to press them off. Only necessary if the rotors are stuck.

Based on my experience the most difficult part of your plan is replacing the brake lines. The nut where the hard line connects to the flexible line is hard to get to and habitually stuck or tight as hell. I use a tubing wrench BUT to keep it from slipping I also clamp a long nose vice grip on it. But, as I said, hard to fit all in that tight space. It also helps to soak the area with penetrating oil for a while before trying to loosen.

Another cautionary note--when reinstalling the calipers--DO NOT over tighten the bolt that holds the caliper in place. Follow torque specs as it is a soft and slender bolt that will easily break.

Re: Rotor replacement "how to" ?

Thanks for the info, it sounds fairly straight forward - looking forward to getting this done.
