Air fuel sensor connection
My car has started to intermittently stall like it has been switched off. The check engine light comes on sometimes. Checking the read memory, the right O2 sensor code is present and also the code 23 for the air flow sensor. The trouble shooting guide in the manual instructs to check the harness connection at the sensor. By wiggling the connection, I can get the car to repeat the symptoms of stalling or almost stalling. It seem like the click connection that should be holding the connection tight is no longer working and the connection is just a friction fit.
Can someone confirm the this connection should be a click/capture connection and not just a friction fit? Also, are parts available to repair the connectors? It looks like both sides might be replacable without buying the whole sensor or harness but I can not find the parts listed on Subaru Parts.com. Any advice on fixing this connection? Thanks. Bill Z |

Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
Can the clips that hold the electrical harness to the air flow sensor be repaired or replaced?
Mine seems loose and the car is stalling with a code 23(air flow sensor). Thanks. Bill Z ps just simplifying my prior post and correcting the typo in tha title. The title can't be edited. |

Perhaps if you post a picture of what your harness looks like, we may have a better idea of what is going on. |

Re: Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
Bill there is a good chance that the pins on the MAF have come loose on the circuit board. With the plug being loose it moves the pins till they break off the circuit board. They can be re-soldered.
Harvey.

Re: Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
Here is the connection that does not lock. Can you tell which end of the connection is damaged and not allowing the locking.
Thanks for the post merge and title correction. Bill |

Re: Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
the sensor side of the connection is what is damaged. there should be a little nub that the harness side locks onto. best fix is new sensor but i have been able to make those nubs from super glue or tiny screws, just make sure it's placed right and doesn't interfere with the inside of the connector. if you want to be really sure and really cheap then drill a whole in both at the side and us a screw to hold them together.

Re: Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
Thanks guys.
Is there a pic somewhere of an undamaged sensor side of the connector so I can know what to try and reproduce with the screws or superglue? Is the circuit board accessable by removing the screws holding the white connector to the meter box so I can check the solder connections? I guess the downside could be damaging the whole unit. Re: Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
here is a picture of the little nub. if you make a large nub of super glue you can then file it down to the correct size and shape. you have to cut the glue around the square top to get inside of it.

Re: Can air flow sensor connection be repaired?
Wow, you are fast. Thanks. Clarifies everything. Too bad they don't sell just the white connector part.
You would not happen to have a pic of the circuit board inside the afm oab_au was talking aboutwould you? Bill |
