Labor day run in Cumberland all gone for this year

I spent 5 days sleeping in the Dodge pu with 3 teenagers and 7 kids under 12 in tents all around me! Fortunately, I was only 'responsible' for 2 teens. My daughter and her BF had the rest to 'herd'. They had 3 of hers, 2 of his and 3 they 'borrowed'. Then there were the 'drifters' that came through camp. (Kids they met there) I was 'alone' thursday night. It was kinda like the ol empty nest was haunting me. Friday, all that changed! I was tripping over kids all over the place! It was WONDERFUL!
Grandson Mike helped me do my 'work', 5 year old Brenden AKA BOO was in charge of 'entertainment'. He is a 'Perpetual Motion Machine' if one ever exists!
I took the Husqvarna, so there was an endless supply of firewood.

OH!! I forgot to mention that there were CARS there too! Over 700 of them! OT stopped by for a while, but he didn't stay long enough. I finished all the stuff I had to do, then looked for him and he was gone.

Labor day to a street rodder is what Reading is to an SVXer. I worked for weeks to get ready, actually got a small percentage of what I used to be able to do finished, then it was over.
Mike used to help me, but now he's into football and a sweet young lady, so 'Pap' gets a few hours/ days, where it used to be ALL the time. (I miss that).
On the PLUS side, I will be getting a new son-in-law soon! He convinced me to sell him my 'ratrod' 46 Dodge the other day and hauled a new rear frame section w a 4 bar suspension, 2 coil-overs, a narrowed 9" Ford rear and wheel tubs to my shop for the 38 Dodge 4 door! It will be 'PRO STREET' in the spring! He even has a 'fresh' 383 Stroker engine, 500 HP on the stand He doesn't have a 'plan' for. I'm sure we can think of something to put it in!
I wouldn't care if he put it in the 46, then we could put the 455 in the 38.

He is a 'machinist' by trade and has access to the best stuff on earth for 'creating'. He is going to build the upper control arms for the 30 Willys, so I can use the SVX front end that is there, and still bolt on the factory front fenders! We will be using a 1963 Buick 401 'Nailhead' engine. Rare car, rare engine, Subaru suspension=CRAZY performance and handleing!
In a 5,000# Buick, that engine lites the tires at 70mph. We are putting it in a 2,500# car with Subaru suspension!

More later.....

Re: Labor day run in Cumberland all gone for this year

When I lived in Everett I used to go to that show every memorial and labor day for years. I need to get my dad and make a trip out some year. Especially since I know people there now too!
