Re: just thought id share this

It's scary just to think you could snap something like that in a realatively small engine.

But, given the tourque that the smallies can put out on the inside......

It's still a wonder though

Did you rebuild?
I expect the Mains must have locked up if it was oiled and not beaten.

Re: just thought id share this

well before the rebuild the crank had seen some high temps and eventually i spun a bearing so me and a buddy rebuilt it but we took the crank to a machine shop and once i picked it up they said it was bent so they balanced and straightend it... so im guessing between the wear before the rebuild and having it worked on at the shop this is probably why it broke

Re: just thought id share this

That’s the new style two piece crank JDM twight! Makes much more power when the two half ca work independently from each other. Oh wait is that the other way around? Less power when not working together. Well good luck with the rebuild, again.

I wouldn't ever reuse a crank from a motor with a spun main bearing unless there was no other choice. A spun rod bearing is usually fine, but when a main bearing goes it puts all kinds of weird stresses on the crank. I've heard it described as a "jump rope" effect by some builders.

There's your bug. Try bending a fork over and over again.
Apply heat to it. Now imagine that fork on a grand scale.
The Molecular structure changes every time, no matter what you do to recover the shape. It's gonna break.

Sorry to hear that it turned out that way, but the machine shop can only do so much without having someone refabricate a new item.
